Anyone else getting this shadow issue?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 7:19 pm

I cant find mention of it anywhere on google or this forum.

The shadows produced by fires (my house fireplace in particular) are "ringed". All other light sources in the house or otherwise seem fine.
and yes I have tried messing with the ini files and resetting the settings

Yes, I have this issue as well. It's very annoying as I enjoy walking around Breezehome in "vanity mode".

Note- I am still on the 1.1 patch as I refuse to use the ninja Steam patch. My game runs fine without that mess, thanks anyhow.

Note 2- I run vanilla (no texture patches, no LAA, no mods).

yes, i have this.
Im guessing your using that 'better furniture' texture pack as well?
not quite sure why it does that, haven't noticed that problem in other places

Yes, I have this issue as well, as do all my friends.
We all play on the pc and used the ini tweaks to fix the shadows.

The problem is not actually the shadow, I thought that at first, it's the light itself that appears to be the source of the problem, it's , looks like they are using a rough rendering method for spherical light striking objects, it's strikingly noticeable on my followers skin, possibly for performance reasons, I too hope there is a fix for it, looks real ugly.

Wait a minute, does everyone's light shading flicker and dance from flames? Cause mine doesn't move at all. Mine are completely frozen! I have everything turned to max and have a somewhat beastly PC.

I dont reckon its a bug, but just a symptom of how the shadows are calculated from a dynamic light source.

This issue persists no matter the driver.
I had it on 11.10 and 11.11c (the latest driver)

BTW my setup:
2x AMD Radeon HD 6850 crossfireX
8GB 1600 MHz ram
i7 950 (yes its first gen i7)

I have edited my ini extensively to above ultra.
Somehow im always >60FPS B) lucky i guess

Yup I have this as well...on BOTH of my computers...(see specs below), so we can eliminate that it's "just an ATI thing or NVIDIA thing", runnng latest drivers...and I did not notice the ringed shadows till after the 1.3 patch. I have no ini tweaks, no mods, and no LAA. Vanilla Skyrim with 1.3 patch on both machines. I have posted about this same problem here

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1308653-sun-shadows-since-13/page__p__19684421#entry19684421

Hopefully they fix it...it is embarassingly unbearable to look at.

This occurred for all versions for me (retail, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3)

I doubt Bethesda can do anything about it though. Its probably a rendering problem.

Guess we'll hav to wait for better drivers

PS. where did that guy go who said he fixed it with an ini setting?

Show us your ini please :)

Boys, shadow problems related to first post i think can be removed by setting the
fShadowBiasScale=0.1500
or higher values.

I tried fShadowBiasScale=1.5000, 0.16, 0.60, 1.000
NO CHANGE.

iShadowMaskQuarter=0 fixes it enirely because it completely disable's indoor shadows

iShadowMaskQuarter=1, 2,3,4 still hav this problem
