Anyone else not like the quests in this game?

Post » Sun Feb 13, 2011 7:38 pm

Let me start this of by saying that I prefer Fallout 3 to NV. In Vegas the quests felt more like odd jobs from different people. A bit like GrandTheftAuto. In Fo3 the quests were a lot more tragic & important. They involved quests like "Big trouble in Big town," where you had to help find napped townsfolk from Mutants. Or "Tranquility lane" which was a simulation of the world before the war. It contained real people who were blinded by the truth that everything wasn't peachy.

In Vegas the quests are not as important but there are a lot more. They felt like "do this for this person; get paid." In Fallout 3 "help this person, & maybe get paid." I don't really see why the story in Vegas is better. Also exactly why do some people not like the story of Fallout 3? Its seems perfectly fine to me.. Is it the fact that the Brotherhood changed their ways or something else? Fallout 3 is was an amazing game & some people don't accept that. Bethesda did save the Fallout franchise just for you to know.

EXTRA POLL! I was very satisfied with the ending of Fallout 3. It was so powerful & did bring a tear to my eye the first time I player it. The Broken Steel ending was unneeded. Because it took away from the story and added some random stuff of the enclave being blown up.

So do you agree or do you want to chuck nades at me? :ermm:

I liked NV's quests more because they have a nice mix of variation between them.
Whil I dislike FO3's quests because they all made it feel like a theme park and I couldn't take the game seriously.

Also exactly why do some people not like the story of Fallout 3?

The Fallout 3 storyline wasn't better for this simple reason:
NCR
Legion
House
Yes Man

I haven't played New Vegas yet so I can't make an opinion on it.

I didn't have any problems with the story for Fallout 3, nor did I have a problem with the "feel" of the game as a whole. I have played every Fallout game in existence(with Brotherhood of Steel being the sole exception), and I think it fits fine in the Fallout mythos. Is it perfect? Of course not. There are some spots where it contradicts the previous games, but not enough to bother me.

I am enjoying it immensely. I am playing it for the second time in a row(the only other game I have ever done that is Bioshock).

See this is my favorite game and beats 3 by far for me. Three is my 4th favorite game and has many great quests but has alot more open space and New Vegas is a tad more filled Areas. The quests hold alot more anger to them than the light hearted emotions I get from fallout 3. I feel the rage of the thirst of revenge that creeps up my spine. In 3 I feel the determination and sadness. Actually...this whole conversation has changedbmy point of view..I can no longer define which one I like better. Fallout 3 and New Vegas are my favorite games of all time :)

New vegas quest and story is miles ahead of FO3.

Multiple paths and good dialog, are whats takes the cake. Also choices and consequences. I also like how everything is tied into each other and how your action really effect the lands in the future. In Fo3 every location was an island in it self and didn't effect anything outside itself. It's storyline svcked mostly because it was a dumbed down copy of Fallout 1 and 2's main plots.

Initially I like the New Vegas quests a lot, there were so many of them and I did find it good and still do that actions in some of the quests were commented on by npc's. Further along though the main quest line seems pointless because of the multiple choice endings. It seems to me the only thing of any significance in New vegas is that the Ncr has grown to the point of being a large army, and a new faction, love or hate them has been introduced. The upcoming dlc's and the geck are probably the only thing keeping me interested at the moment.

I would much rather a main quest line with one ending but have multiple paths to get there, Good Bad and Indifferent and the path you've chosen reflected in the ending.
Fallout 3 playing an evil character was pretty pointless in regard to the main quest, at most a snide greeting from quest givers with regards to your karma and that seemed to be it. So that was a disappointment for me and the quests were far to simple.

What do youmean, most of your actions in side quests are mentioned. In FO3 you harldy get any mention on your actions. it just tells you your good or evil and if you put the FEV in or not at the end.

Both games have good and bad quests, that's about all there is to it really.

NV's main quest has greater replayability value and allowance for player choice, but it is still largely formulaic; no matter what side you choose you're going to the same factions and doing the same things. I.e. whether you choose House or NCR you're still going to the Boomers, BoS, Great Khans, etc.

Although overall I prefer NV's quests because there is just so many of them, but taking quest X from Fo3 and quest Y from NV, Fallout 3 wins.
Of course there are good quests, but most seemed just "Meet person X, kill bad guys Y, take item Z, return it to X" or "Meet X, go to Y, find out Y is full of bad guys, kill bad guys, return to X" AND not to mention the worst ones, "Meet X, talk to Y, talk to X, kill Y or X"

Why not just being honest, and admit you don't like quests which aren't centered around "go to place x and shoot y?" :P
The story in Fallout 3 for sure isn't better, it's just way easier to grasp for some folks. Some just prefer clear black and white tales without ambiguity.
Stating Fallout 3s quests were more tragic HAS to be a joke, right?
Have you ever done Boones sidequest? or Arcade's? or Veronica's? Have ever been to the Gomorrah and done anything there besides gambling? Have you ever talked to Betsy or Pretty Sarah? Heck, have you ever been to Freeside?
New Vegas is full of little stories which boast really believable human tragedy inside them, and not something like
"Ohhh, save the doc of our joke settlement with no connection to the rest of the gaming world from Super Mutant dungeon #76"
And it appears to be pretty obvious that you even failed to understand, what Tranqulity lane was about...
I've played 3 a lot and got a lot of enjoyment from it, but please, don't pick up the obvious weakpoints of it and try using them as arguments why it is supposedly better than New Vegas.

Also, when doing a poll, then offer choices that go beyond YOUR preferred outcome.
New Vegas has a lot of REALLY good quests

Say hallelujah if you played Worms.

NV's writing destroys anything FO3 has to offer in this department.

To answer the thread; few, good and loooooong quests.

So far (Im about 20 hours into my second play) the quests in FO3 blow the ones in NV out of the water. NV has a better main story but the side quests in FO3 were leagues ahead of NV.

I generally prefer FONV. Maybe just because I like the rep system and the fact that there really are a number of different paths for each quest. I like the impact of speech challenges and such.

My beefs with the FONV quests is that you always get rewarded... like, taking the good and generous option will still yield you some bonuses because you were charitable enough to do something selflessly. On a slightly related note, I didn't like how everyone in the wasteland was so good or neutral. People in a post-apocalyptic world shouldn't be friendly or helpful beyond what is mutually beneficial for them.

FO3 had way better quests than NV. If they had the same guns and mods in FO3, I wouldn't even play NV.

Not only were the quests in FO3 better, the game just felt better as a whole. I haven't even had NV 2 months yet and I've already beat it once, started another play through and just gave up because it was soooo boring the second time through.

And all of these quests people are bringing up to as a counter argument are lame too. The ONLY quest I really enjoyed was Boone's companion quest. NV had a good foundation, and from the first time I woke up at the Doctor's house I had high expectations. And by high, I really mean just slightly higher than FO3, which I loved. I expected just a slight improvement and new setting for a solid game. However, I was let down from that point on.

Having all those factions didn't make the game better or more interesting at all. Especially since the Legion was so weak and small. I walked into the fort and wiped them all out once I reached level 18 or so.

I had waaaay more fun playing FO3.

The first question was difficult to answer. I love the writing in New Vegas, but the quests did not really pull me in like Fallout 3 did. At times I felt like I was trudging through a grocery list of tasks that I didn't really care about just to get to the next bit of dialogue or plot development that I thoroughly enjoyed. Fallout 3 was perhaps more simplistic, but I wholeheartedly agree with the posts describing the epic scope and the feeling that your actions are meaningful in the world. For this reason, I had to choose Fallout 3 style quests, though I really wish I could merge the two together into one great big beautiful abomination.

Second question, there is no debate as far as I'm concerned. I would rather play one good quest and see Game Over than trudge through a hundred mediocre quests.
