Anyone else svck at this game?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:53 am

Like the title says, I'm so bad at this game. I'm usually near the bottom of the scoreboard even though I try to do as many objectives as possible. Some games I'll even be the only guy doing the main objectives, essentially winning the game, but I'll still end up with like 1k exp in the end. While I don't really like COD or any of that stuff, I feel like I can't kill people ever. I don't care about a K/D ratio, but sometimes you really have to kill a dude taking an objective, carrying the intel etc. Anyone have similar experiences? Or can anyone help my noob existence? haha

Try being a medic, you get tons of points that way. Just buff and revive people.

Are you playing multiplayer or single-player?

Try being a Medic maybe? I got tons of XP doing Medic stuff. ^_^

There's a definite learning curve, for sure. It took me a little while to really get a handle on the mechanics, and I'm still struggling with crouching and not instinctive holding shift (I know I could rearrange the layout but it seems more practical to keep SMART there instead).

Just be sure to hand out whatever buffs or ammo you can give out frequently, that's your bread and butter. Also be sure to use the objective wheel and select whatever objective you're already completing for additional XP, I noticed that provided a sizeable reward than just doing the objective without it selected.

EDIT: Oh, and if you're playing exclusively as operative be prepared not to get as many chances to receive XP unless the map you're on explicitly needs you. When I started playing I was curious why half the time there were NO operatives (unlike on any poll you've seen here where it's always chosen as the one class everyone wants to play) and it's because you don't get diddle unless you're playing smart, capturing enemy command posts and doing a bunch of objective. Without the ability to hand out stuff to your team mates you take a drastic cut in pay off.

^^ This.... Like many, I am new to this style of "team based" shooter. I chose the Medic because I thought it might be the easiest in trying to learn the game. I was waaaaaaaay wrong. I had joined a friends game/ party and he was in a clan that I completed by joining as said Medic. They were all screaming at me cause I wasnt healing/ buffing, I was rushing and killing (dying alot too).

I am going to stick with the Medic class and make it my personal mission to perfect it!

If you can't kill, just play as support.
Medic - Revive, buff health
Soldier - Distribute ammo, blow out short cuts
Operative - Provide radar, spot mines, hack turrets, firewall command posts
Engineer - Buff weapon, lay mines & turrets, build stuff, destroy mines, upgrade command posts

to quickly choose an objective, just look at it and press UP, this will auto select. and be sure to buff your team whenever possible, just try to save 1 supply pip for your abilities. also, let other people do the objectives, and just stand guad. consntant exp and killing multiplier.

Another piece of advice from someone experienced in class-based games, but yet to play Brink...

Experiment with EVERY class/body type option available to you - Different players will find different character types suit their playstyle. And don't assume that because you're good at something in one game, that you'll always bee good at the equivalent in another - sometimes things don't translate - I'm EXPECTING to be good as an Operative/Medic dual-spec - I'm going to try out everything before setting that in stone, though - those two seem like they'll fit my playstyle the best, but I won't rule out the possibility of something else turning out to be a better fit for me.

Tell me about it! On games like COD, my gaming experience vanishes and even with 3 years of hardcoe gaming under my belt, Black Ops just left me feeling inadequate. I'm hoping with my Mirror's edge experience and with the new controls, I'll be able to master brink in no time.

Yeah being a medic that doesn't heal or revive is kinda useless. Once you master it you can be a real asset to the team. The main people who should concentrate on killing are the soldiers and operatives.

True it isn't WOW. But WOW isn't the only game out there where class mastery is important.

This isn't completely true. I've played a few games online where I ended up Best Overall Player, Best Medic, and Most Kills. I don't understand why people think the Medic only needs to be healing/buffing/reviving. You can do all those things while popping the guys trying to hurt your team as well.

Use your team based abilities to buff/heal/revive/replenish ammo etc... I am pretty sure that will help you get exp.

True I do that too. But he said himself he svcks at killing and was getting yelled at for not doing his job as a medic. I never said to not try to kill people.

Right but the part about his friends screaming at him. Its a medic class not a cleric :) Was my point.

Aint no complaints with the game mechanics here. Bout time someone made an objective based game.

Lets just say in a class based game, teamwork is important. I refuse to play with people who don't try to help each other. If you can buff, then you should.

Plus his team was waiting for him to revive them. At lower levels they can't do anything when they are incapacitated. If I was waiting for a rez, I'd be pissed too if he just ran by me without rezing me.

That Parkour challenge kicked me As* . But shooting wise aim for their head with short bursts, scopes can help. If you haven't unlocked them yet.

When you're attempting the main objectives, do you usually just rush straight for them, or do you stick with teammates? It's often pretty well impossible to get anything done by yourself. Even if the objective appears wide open, you might want to be cautious and wait for someone to show up and cover you before you start; the enemy will get an alert that you've started working on the objective, and if they're smart, they'll run to you and mow you down before you're halfway done.

Try the engineer class. The repairing, buffing and turret emplacements will help you rack up big points while you learn to be a more effective killer. I am already very used to this game type coming over from MAG on PS3 and picked up on it very quickly. Repairing always yielded huge points in MAG and it does so here as well. The engineer is also the most used class in the game as far as I can tell with objectives by the handful in all missions.
I scored 9000+ points in a match yesterday by setting a turret at the top of a stairwell and then staying next to it and helping it to mow down player after player trying to escort the hostage, I really would have loved to have seen how many kills I had in that match, because I know it was huge. Defending objectives also yields huge points for just standing there and if you get some kills they are multiplied XP because of defending at the same time.
This is an extremely fun multiplayer, but for people coming over from more traditional TDM style games (CoD, Homefront, etc), it will take some time to figure out what works and what doesn't. Objectives add a new wrinkle that the general population are not accustomed to.
