ATI 6570M 1gb, i believe it was OCed when i bought the laptop gddr5
4gb ram 1333mhz i think DDr3
WD 3200bevt something something...crappy HDD

temperatures:
motherboard, 65deg to 70deg skyriming
CPU, all 4 cores 65-72
gpu, 55-63
all in celcius.

when idle it is around 45 to 55 on motherboard/cpu and 40-45 on gpu

Need responses from laptop skyrimers if they had this temperatures too. Else ima just gonna throw away this laptop x.x

Do you have your vent covered up? That sould be the problem, I run it on a laptop just fine, doesnt seem to get hotter then anything else.

Yeah, same here, running a laptop lesser spec'd than yours and no issues.

All laptops are not of the same quality. Some cut corners everywhere to sell at a rock bottom price, and cooling capacity is part of what they threw out to go the cheap route.

On a desktop core i7 processors have a max safe temperature of 100 C and go into thermal shut down at 110 or so. I also know my GTX 570 is technically safe into the 90's.

I'm not sure how much of this applies to your laptop but a quick google search using your cpu and gpu model then asking for a maximum safe temperature should get you some opinions on the issue.

Those temperatures are not that unusual for a laptop, specially when gaming. Since full load can stress it to very high temps, when using minimal heatsinks and fans.
However your idle temperatures are higher than I expected, so I'd be worried at just how bad the ventilation is in it.
Just be concerned if it starts to go over 80. Otherwise you are probably fine.

Since it concerns you, I'd take a look into laptop coolers.
I've found the Zalman series to be good, purely for it be so quiet. They aren't very expensive either.

To give you a comparison.

This laptop is heavily overclocked which I admit I'm impressed by, but did not expect.
Base speed is 1.6/2.3 Ghz, I usually run it at 2.8/3.2 Ghz . Only minor adjustments to voltage.

It usually idles at 25-30.
While gaming (skyrim) 70-75 is not unusual.
It would usually be in the 60's if it is not overclocked, so a bit like yours.

My laptop can go alittle higher, around 90 it tends to "complain" by de-throttling, but I've not pushed it over 3.4 Ghz in a while so I've might forgotten at which point it started to de-throttle.
Laptops tend to be well geared to making sure it doesn't burn in a fiery death, or atleast any good laptop should. Every processor and gpu are different though, so I wouldn't rely on best guesses and I'd look at improving the cooling like I did.
There is a higher chance of long term damage to you more than the laptop at these temperatures, if you play with it on your lap.

I can still fit both the laptop cooler and my laptop in my laptop bag. So it really is not a space hog.

to add on:
model is HP dv6 4023tx
it has a [censored] vent design and many others complain abt the overheat. Seems like 50-55 when idle is normal.

That particular dv6 does have a bad vent design. It also has components in that really do need big heat sinks and fans which obviously a laptop can not provide, so the eventual problem occurs. Heat.

Look, into laptop coolers. Obviously I recommended the Zalman already (it's in my signature). It's quiet and effective.

Don't know what this thread is about.

Those temperatures are downright cold.

Play on!

R

(if you want to see hot, use some benchmarking or stress testing apps. Run Prime95 for a few minutes....)

I have a lenovo y560p i7 2630qm quad core and my max temp while playing napoleon total war is 75 degrees (and its winter, and i have a laptop cooler). While running Prime95 i have gotten it up to 85 degrees celsius. Its just the way a lot of true quads are these days, plus my quad core cpu is overclocked by intel with turboboost. This is why the TJ Max on a lot of newer quad core intels is 100 degrees. Once 100 degrees is reached the turboboost cuts back.
