Anyone feel like translating BOSS?

Posting this outside the BOSS thread to keep that uncluttered and to hopefully draw more eyes.

I've recently finished implementing the first stage of a translation system into the next version of BOSS, and I'm looking for people to help with the actual translation part, because there's a fair amount of text involved.

What I've done so far is to open up all UI text apart from masterlist messages, debug messages and the text in the BOSS.ini for translation. I haven't yet implemented the system that will allow masterlist messages to be translated, or added contextual information for the strings to be translated.

The former I will probably do in my next set of changes, and the latter I will work on as translators contact me saying they need contextual information for whatever strings require it.

I'm aiming to get BOSS translated into the following languages:
  • English (no, you can't volunteer for this one.)
  • German
  • Russian
  • Spanish
These are the languages that BOSS's installer currently (in the SVN at least) supports, so it would be good for BOSS itself to support them too. If you want to contribute a translation in different language, that's also welcome.

I've written instructions for translating BOSS http://code.google.com/p/better-oblivion-sorting-software/wiki/Internationalisation. Sorry about how messy they are, I was originally just keeping notes for myself, they'll get better and I'll probably put something in the readme about it.

Speaking of which, in addition to translating the strings that are used within BOSS itself, I'm open to people wanting to translate the docs (if anyone is that crazy). I've rewritten them for the next release, so anyone wanting to do that shouldn't just start with the current release's docs, they should instead contact me to get a copy of the next release's docs. I don't think I'll be making any more major changes (besides adding a bit about translations) before the next release, so it should be fine.

If you're interested in contributing, just post below saying so, and say whether it's BOSS or the docs you want to translate, and into which language. If someone has already volunteered for the language you'd like to work on, still volunteer because we can have multiple people working on the same files, and it'll give a better chance of a higher quality translation in the end.

Here's who is doing what so far:
  • Russian - Tokc.D.K.
Sharlikran and Leandro Conde both previously volunteered to work on a Spanish translation, and Scharesoft previously volunteered to work on a German translation, but they have not yet confirmed their intent.

Should it be possible to translate in French someday, let me know.
I'll contact the french translating community and lend a hand if I have the time. :goodjob:

Any language that reads left-to-right should be fine for translation. All it needs is for someone to do the translation and for me to add ini and drop-down options for it, so from a technical standpoint adding new languages is trivial.

Ah, I misread your first post then. Where's my coffee? :P

I'll contact the admin from that community and inform him about the BOSS translation and get him to contact you. (He may have an account here) I'll see with him if I can join him for the translation. He's from France and I'm from Québec. We don't have the same French so I'll check this out with him.
