Anyone figure out any ways to keep it from freezing?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:53 pm

I'm playing and I'm in Good springs still only a few hours into the game and it has frozen 3 times in a row. Twice upon loading a fast travel from the water thing back to goodsprings, then i walked back on my own, got around to the middle of the town and it froze again.

I read some people talking about that the DLC might be the problem. Has anyone experienced better play when they deleted everything and restarted without installing the DLC pack? Or maybe by installing the game to the harddrive?

I just was wondering, cause I don't really want to restart my game, and play for a few hours just to have it start freezing every 5 minutes again. But then again since i haven't heard anything about the patch, I may not have a choice :[

I just wanna play this dang game! i was so excited for it :P

install to hard drive and clear cache. it works for me, i dont freeze and my framerate dosent drop. it works for a while then you have to clear again about every 10 hours or so. it also helps with load times cut mine in about half.

Do this:
1. Install game on HD
2. Do NOT install any DLC, i repeat do NOT install DLC
3. Clear cache memory (Console settings---Memory---Highlight HD----press Y---clear cache)
4. Turn off XBOX 360
5. Turn on XBOX 360
6. Play the game
7. turn off all 3 auto saves functions and save manually. Keep several save files and save frequently
8. If you start seeing freezing and frame rate issues, repeat steps 3 to 6...

Enjoy!

This manual comes from somebody who is almost done with the game and i have not had a major glitch or game breaker yet...I play on XBOX 360 60 GB White....

Such detailed instructions! Sir, if this works, I will worship the ground you walk upon.

My only question (because I'm a nit wit). Do I delete all my saves and start a new game for this to work?

I'm playing the game on a new 360 "s" with the game installed to hard drive. Did not install DLC. So far no crashes, freezes, or corrupted saves in well over 20 hours of gameplay. There are other bugs, such as not being able to play any of the gambling games.

No, just make sure you turn off the auto saves...
the game has a memory leak which means your cached memory will get fuller and fuller by the hour...Delete it frequently
All these points worked for me this is why i mentioned the system i am playing on XBOX 360 60 GB White...what are you playing on? I have heard people playing on the Slim and they are having a nightmare with this game...
Hope this works for you..come back and tell us your feedback..this is the only reason i signed up here is t help out whoever needs it if it works of course...

Strange, this worked for me. Nevertheless, you seem to be ok since you have not had a game breaker yet. Dont worry finish the game, and by the time you are ready to give it a second playthrough there will be patches..This is my train of thought at least...

well i certainly appreciate your help. As soon as i get home from work tonight i will follow your steps and try playing for a few hours, and will post the results on here. I'm not playing on a new slim xbox, but a slightly new one from a while ago.

By the way I have another question. In my current game I have already installed the DLC. So wouldn't I need to restart my game to get rid of it in my previous saves?

The DLC was linked to a game breaking save file glitch. I suggest you dont do anything like deleting your saves yet....The problem occurs (i think) when you clear the cached, some of the DLC might not be available (this is not confirmed i am just guessing) which might cause for the save files to get corrupted. This is just my theory..But if this happens you have to start a new game, and when you start delete or DO NOT install the DLC crap...
if i were you i would just delete it and follow my step by step above, but this is just me thouhg. I am just posting what i have done and what i have experienced as far as positive effect or negative effect..I never installed the DLC to start with...

I'm playing on a 360 Slim, 250, installed on HD, clearing cache after every play and I've had 1 freeze from killing a stuck Gecko, 1 loading screen freeze, and a fast travel to black freeze. I'm also experiencing a strange glitch wherein my arms and gun are occasionally rise and fall when in 1st person.

Not that many framrate issues.

Well i certainly did not now the DLC should cause such problems or i wouldn't have installed it. I'm probably going to follow your instructions, clear the cache and the other steps and try to play my saves again. If they get messed up, then i'll restart my game and delete everything and not install DLC, but it doesn't hurt to try with the old saves first :P

You are correct my friend. Try and then let people know on here if you notice any positive effect on your gameplay.

I believe I've seen this a few times as well, though this was before all the real commotion happened and i didn't really know what the heck it was or why it was happening. TBH, things like that are stupid, but no where near in comparison to the freezing.

I downloaded my DLC(tribal) and had not a single freeze is over 12 hours of play... Then again I did sell most of the dlc stuff at the beginning.

Don't get your hopes up too high though mate! Took me roughly 18 hours of play before my game froze. And now I can't play this game at all until the patch is out. Which really svcks, because I've been looking forward to this for quite some time.

My game has frozen bout 3 times but if i hit the Xbox button as soon as it happens i can usually save it from crashing, haven't encountered any save killers though. I am using an older X360 arcade and don't have Live.
