Stagger and Paralyze will be your friend. You will need to kite targets so invest heavily into Stamina. You will need to get all of the Perks in the Archery tree to be effective. If you take sneak, you will not need Quick Draw, Ranger, the top perk, or the extra arrows. Ranger and Quick Draw become almost imperative. The additional chance to Paralyze targets further is a must. You might want to also look at getting some of the Block perks as you can R click to Bash etc. which may be beneficial especially when you get overrun and cannot kite targets to help gain ground.

Bring lots of arrows? You'll be doing a lot of kiting.

You'll want armor skills and blade skills. Not sneaking means you won't get a sneak multiplier when hitting, doing less damage per hit. And everything that's allied to what you hit will surge forward to mob you.

Take alchemy, go to the marshes surrounding Morthal and collect all the deathbell and fungal pods you can. Combine them with salt and imp stool respectively to craft slow and paralyse poisons. Enjoy your sneakless archer.

The ranger perk takes all the fun out of the character for me though, because you no longer will need to sprint kite, so I never take it. YMMV.

Having a bow would be good.

Knowing how to use it would probably be a good idea as well.

Combining the archery- and sneak-tree made things too easy for me. Naturally, your sneak-skill will be leveling pretty quick, with the result that you will get sneak-shots when the opponent is standing a couple of feet in front of you. I didn't take any perks in the armor- AND sneak-tree, but made use of alchemy. For that, I sold every potion I found and hand-crafted everything I used on my adventures. I was a loner, so no companions for me. I didn't even invest in enchantment, but what I had was a priest-mask that fortified the effectiveness of my boy by 20%, a ring and leather-wrists that did the same, so my bow did 260% of damage with all 5 base-perks. I stopped playing with a glass-bow having a soultrap enchantment.
I levelled Illusion up to 75, but found it disturbing to have to sheathe the bow for casting, but making a group of opponents fight themselves is fun.

Having a bow using follower works well to. Equip them with one of your best arrows and they'll continue to shoot that arrow creating a suply of them found on the gound and in corpses. Don't use your best arrows yourself until you have plenty of them, or you need a damage boost for a boss.

Maybe consider a 'tank' follower, to distract and hold up enemies.

One thing I didn't do the first time round is invest in enchanting and smithing. For me that's made a huge difference. I just picked up what bow I could find the first time, ended up with an Ebony bow. I thought that was awesome. Also applied to my one handed swords as well.

This time I've improved the bow and enchanted it - makes a difference. And obviously using the Archery perks. Didn't really worry about the perk about picking heaps of arrows - there's enough of 'em about.

Its much better than destruction magic. Try using a summoned bow at early levels too

Kiting is "hit and run". You hit the monster and it follows you like a kite would. You take shots on it every now and then, but maintain your distance... kind of like a kite.

I use smithing and enchanting to bring up the bow. It appears to me there isn't the penality with using heavy arrows if one is invested in light armor and light smithing, probably because we can't make arrows- yet.

One of my greatest skills. My Mage was amazing.

Kite:
The action of a kite on a windy day.

The ability to run wildly around throwing off ranged attacks and sprinting here and there to throw off melee attackers.

In my case while casting Atronachs and spamming lightning bolts . Playing as a Conjuror/Destruction Mage was a lot of fun but you had to be able to kite ... eh'.

I asked this very question about a week or two ago. I fell in love with archery. I took some of the tips I received from these fine folks here and I gotta tell you it works!
Start out as a wood elf, though you don't need to. I think any race will work if you keep at the skill.
Keep practicing it, but have a back up weapon for those close encounters. I used a steel dagger and some light armor to help.
I went out in the woods (forest) at night and just shot stuff. I used my sneak skill to help it along.
Eventually I got a whole lot better.
light armor + sneak + archery = awesomeness.

Well if you aren't going to utilize sneak it will present more of a challenge.
As others have said, poisons and archery tree perks are a must. You could go with a warrior follower to grab everyone's attention, or a pure damage dealing follower (like Marcurio)

Use fear when you're overwhelmed and shoot arrows in them as they flee. The illusion school should help you a lot

Getting your enchanting and smithing skills up will ensure you'll always have a good enchanted bow without having to rely on chance in the hopes you stumble across one. Save those daedra hearts, daedric bow is uber pwnage

Btw my first archer used sneak and it was very satisfying to make my way through a dungeon sniping foes before they even knew I was there. It was so effective it was almost to the point of being OP. Upping the difficulty took care of that pretty quick though

Kiting means you fire arrows at the enemy, always moving and always keeping distance between you and him. It would also apply to a mage firing off spells in same fashion.
You need to mix up slowing attacks in there, and the pushback shout would be good too. Skyrim is nice that you can use terrain, also. I find that enemies won't jump down after you, which makes a good tactic to kite them up to a high level, then jump down, slow them, and get off a couple three shots before they're close to you. Master level with a bow, and some kind of caster after your butt? it's a rush, very fun.

Archery and Sneak really do go together well. I was wandering in some dungeon and there were all these dead Dragur lying about, with gold yet so I had not been by before. I was puzzled for a minute then remembered my little shooting gallery session from quite some time before. I had finally gotten to where they were. Satisfying.

Shouts :

Unrelenting Force, Whirlwind Sprint, Marked for Death, Ice Form

Dismay and Disarm can be moderately useful as well, and Flame Shout can be used from afar to light oil on fire...all depends.

Schools of Magic :

Conjuration for bound bow, then perks in dual casting and the rest of the bound weapon perks. Because you won't be spending perks in sneak, you'll have plenty to spare and arrows will never be a problem.

Destruction for runes. I always try to drop a rune for when I get rushed, Ice form and retreat back or to higher ground and repeat.

I personally would go with Alchemy over Resto, so you don't have to waste magicka or remove your bow. Especially if you use a bound bow.

Skills :

If smithing and enchanting is your thing, you won't necessarily need Conjuration. Though the ability to banish daedra and auto-soultrap stuff is pretty damned nice all things considered.

Light armor for weight early on, moreso if you decide to smith, but I would think about getting a piece of equipment that would support your Conjuration in someway.

...........

One last thing, make sure you fully notch your arrows before using Eagle Eye/Slow time.

Just a few thoughts, and I totally hear you on the not investing in sneak thing. An Archer Assassin can be fun, but about the only thrill from playing one is hiding once you are detected... probably THE easiest class in all of Skyrim.

As soon as you can unlock the pick up extra arrows perk grab it. You'll run through good arrows way too fast without it

Go find Angi at her hard to find shack and talk to her.
Spoiler
You'll probably want to wait until your archery is at 90 and therefore you're too high-skilled to visit the archery trainer anymore.

Definitely get the perks that allow you to draw faster and move faster with a drawn bow since you're not doing sneak.
