Anyone having a problem with hardcoe mode?

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 11:08 pm

Mind you, i do have the classic pack. So im not too worried about weapons as the weatherd 10mm pistol is flippin awsome.

I have not ran into much a problem at all. ive never really gone past 100 on anything. Stimpacks dont heal limbs or work as fast, but im fine with that.

Yes it is, well according to the game...

It clearly states in the first sentence of requesting if you want to play hardcoe mode or not.... "Fallout:New Vegas allows you to play in a new hardcoe mode that greatly increases the challenge of the game."

Right. It's just more micromanaged. I slept once and ended up with minor dehydration (hit over 200 H20). I just ran into Doc Mitchel's house and drank from his toilet.

Basically, put up with some annoyances and get an achievement+ at the end.

The trouble repairing limb damage is an increased difficulty, in my eyes. Doctor's Bags and doctors are both relatively rare. So I'm putting up with an occasionally crippled head or leg (stupid mines). Beyond that, it's pretty easy. Though finding pure water sources beyond Good Springs is becoming difficult.

Exactly, you just have to keep an eye on more guages and go out of your way to fix broken bones. It's not like enemies hit for any more than they would on that difficulty.

Yeah, I sell every shotgun shell I come across for that reason alone. But I'm stocking up everything else until I get a house.

Yeah I love it more so that now they brought back the ammo damage type AP,HP etc..

I play mine on Very Hard setting in gameplay difficulty as well to make it more challenging for me.

Here's a pic of that sentence when your about to leave Doc house:

Water was a bit of a problem for me at first, because portable water was in short supply so I could never get too far from Goodsprings. :P Now it's not so bad. I'm still meh about the limbs problem, though, because doctors bags are pretty rare and explosives are not (especially when your first major group of enemies, assuming you do make them enemies, are the Powder Gang, half of whom just chuck dynamite at you like it's going out of style). I think it's definitely manageable though.

Overall, I'm enjoying hardcoe mode a lot more than I thought I would. Aside from a brief mistake where I forgot that waiting around for 3 days for a merchant's inventory to reload would be a bad idea, it's been totally manageable so far.

Its not a problem at all, very clearly the game was meant to be played with it. It is a well implemented gameplay system that really adds to the depth of the game, it isn't a pain, and it seems that the option only exists because their anolysts feared it might be annoying to "casual gamers" who couldn't pay attention.

hardcoe should be recommended on.

This is the main reason it creates difficultly (which is a good thing in my opinion). You now have even more of a reason to look at sledgehammers and shotguns in fear. Not to mention that in New Vegas crippled limbs are now an actually penalty that you can't play through and ignore the effects of, like you could do in FO3.

The only thing that has taken some used to is the stimpack usage. I have not had any food/water/sleep issues yet. I like it though, i have to have better strategy in battles.

I imagine stimpacks being a HoT could turn out to be quite a problem in later stages of the game, where the big fights tend to happen.

It seems interesting so far. I always had issues with inventory weight in Fallout 3 - ammo weight is just making that more pronounced :P

I'm also not sure how I feel about energy weapon ammunition generally being a fair bit heavier than that of conventional munitions. I was planning to go with energy weapons, but so far I've not been able to find anything to repair with, and my ammunition supply is nearly non-existent. Once I'm able to get a bit of it though, it looks like I'll be able to carry less than I could if I went with guns. Unless of course I can get a supply of the rechargeable rifles going, assuming they're even any good (haven't used one yet).

Not sure if non-hardcoe mode allows the player to heal and repair limbs when sleeping, but I don't seem to gain any benefits when I rest in a bed (except for counteracting sleep deprivation, of course). Given how much limb damage I took from setting off one mine, that's going to make Doctor Bags and Doctors themselves extremely important.

With any luck, we'll be forced to anticipate and prepare for big fights instead of just stocking up on stimpacks and wading in guns blazing, or, bravely run away and come back with a plan.

That's one of the things I thought The Witcher did really well.

Yeah, this game is definitely teaching me to be more wary about that. I found a small Powder Gang camp (near that Sky Diving place just outside Goodsprings) and got myself blown up by a mine. Then I fixed myself with my only doctor's bag, only to take five steps and get blown up by another one. I guess I'm a slow learner. :P

I don't think it's supposed to directly make the game "harder" per se. Its more to do. Bascially it adds immersion.

There shouldn't necessarily be anything hard about getting water (lead belly perk ftw),

Having hunger be an issue makes crafting much more interesting.
