Anyone know if there is going to be a delay on DLC for PS3?

Anyone know if there is going to be a delay to get the DLC to the PS3 like there was for Fallout 3? I would hate to have to wait forver for the dlc again!

No one is really knows for sure if there will be DLC, depends on how well the game does really.

your sig shows off a pretty decent computer for gaming - why would you play it on the PS3 with something as good as that?

also nobody knows. Bethesda clearly favor the 360 as far as consoles go, and i have the feeling Obsidian probably will as well, but it's too early to tell.

It's pure hardware. Reason why the PS3 had to wait for so long was that Beth couldn't get all five DLC to play nice with the core game with the PS3's limited RAM. I think some newer version of the PS3 has more ram than the older though

The DLC will hopefully be released for the consoles at the same time now that the learning curve for the PS3 has been overcome. Though the mention of the PS3's RAM might be a concern as stated... Anyone certain if the PS3 Slim has more RAM than the Classic PS3?

Why should that matter? I've still got my classic PS3. They can't design DLC with only the slim model in mind.

You're right. It wouldn't be fair to those with an older system, but it would resolve some of the save issues that grow over 9 MB per save...

Checked wikipedia. All three PS3 generations have 256 system and video RAM. The 360 IIRC has 512 system RAM (Checked that to: Yup)

Thanks for the info. If the RAMs the same, I wonder how they're going to get around the huge file size for the PS3 FNV version... Many said their DLCs on the PS3 had to be played with different save files/characters each with maybe 2 to 3 DLCs, just to keep the game functional, instead of like the 360 version, where one character could have all five DLC at level 30 with one save file, without any issues.

In an interview i saw with one of the devs.....he was standing by a tv sreen with the title menu behind him, & blacked out at the bottom was "download content".
Why would that be there if they were'nt going to do DLC?
I'm willing to bet my house that they will do download content....& it would'nt suprise me if they have ideas for it already.
It will make them more money, allow them to implement new ideas ( or fit ideas in there ,that they did'nt have time for etc ) , & they know people will buy it.
Just my opinion :)

As for a delay on PS3 who knows...we'll just have to wait & see.

*raises shoulders to ear level*

These things happen. Personally I see it as a chance for Obsidian to figure out a way to conserve RAM for us PS3 users. I've had an all 5 DLC core game beaten character, but I pretty much deleted it afterwards since wastelanding got dull as heck with absolutely everything was dug around in. I've been to lazy to beat all 5 DLCs in one game since then xD

I don't think anyone amongst us is connected enough to have that information.

The PS3 has the same amount of total ram to work with. It is just a matter of coding properly. The PS3 is as capable on the hardware end as the 360. I doubt they're using less than half of the 360's 512 MB on graphics. My shot in the dark guess is that the problems on the PS3 were caused by not making good use of the cell processor's SPEs. Trying to program for a PS3 like one would for a desktop PC yields worse results than doing the same thing on a 360 because the 360 has symmetrical cores in its CPU like a PC does.

its because fallout doesn't have really good graphics the better the graphics the better the game works on PS3

something conflicts with games and doesn't play well with PS3

uncharted has really good graphics-works really well :goodjob:

mag has horrible graphics-freezes every 10 seconds :brokencomputer:

I said no less than five posts ago that the 360 has twice the amount of system RAM than the PS3. It's svcks but it's true. Then you have a point. One might make it run smooth as oil with some creative coding and software work.

The 360 has 512 MB of shared ram for the system and graphics. The PS3 has 256 MB of system ram and 256 MB of graphics ram. Unless the 360 is using less than half its ram on graphics it has no more available for running the game than on the PS3. I consider it a fair assumption that the xBox 360's GPU is using half its ram most of the time. Having the bottleneck at the CPU makes more sense than a shortage of ram. The parallel instruction needed to take advantage of the cell processor is more involved than with the 3 core powerpc chip used by the xBox. In addition to having seven cores to worry about six of them are the SPEs which are less flexible in use. The cell is impressive when used properly but can fall flat when code is ported to it.

i have a classic ps3 not sure how much hard drive memory it has its ether 120 or 160 not sure how much ram ether but i have all five dlc installed and im a lvl 30 and i have not had a bit of trouble besides the glitches that even 360 people experience so i do not think ram is necessarily the problem.

Why would you be shocked? Only... lets see... 5/5 DLC for Fo3 added new locations to the game... I think they will release like 2 or maybe 3 DLC for the game, but cant really say if it will be at the same time as console or not. Guess thats what you get for having a PS3. :P

I dont think thats how it works really. By that reasoning 8-bit games should be unplayable. Like people said above me (I think) its because coding for the PS3 is different from the PC and Xbox 360 which are rather similiar.

I'm going to jump on a limb here and say... I doubt there will be the same delay for DLC as F3 had. I don't know the reason for it in the first place, and I'm certainly not going to speculate here. But I'm pretty sure the same thing is NOT going to happen with FNV.

I doubt there will be as big of a delay as last time. Last time Beth. either A:had a hard time "porting" the DLC to the PS3, causing delays. Or B:Microsoft shelled out cash to get the DLC first(which doesn't explain the enormous gap in release dates)

Clearly only devs can answer this question.

From my understanding the delay of the Fallout 3 dlc on PS3 was mainly due to the PS3 system architecture and network support at the time being a mindfield whilst simultaneously attempting to manage such a massive undertaking across two platforms (Xbox and PC) with finite resources stretched to capacity. In other words organized neglect, followed by begrudging support motivated by a last ditch attempt to empty your pockets. Throw in the possibility of timed-exclusivity agreements with Microsoft which may have gone on behind closed-doors.

Most of these issues will no longer be a problem given it's old tech, but it's a new team who may air on the side of caution with regard to dlc plans.

I made a thread about this but got locked because apparently there was another "invisable" thread about the same situation.

Lets go Obsidian! Make us PS3 uers proud!

Bethesda never made any contract with M$. They just gave them the add-ons earlier for free. I have to say that is not smart. Forgoodness sake; M$ paid Rockstar $50 million.
