Go for it. You can still have good defenses while dual wielding, don't worry about it.

A dual wielded power attack is a thing of beauty, kung fu swords with a decent decapitaion chance. Fun fun fun!

My first character was a dagger duel wielding nightblade. The kill animations are sick. Once you get some decent weapons you are really deadly.

Yep. Your defense consists of near constant offense. It's like being a threshing machine . And though it's already been mentioned, the finishers are supercool.

I did, and filled the empty place of defense with restoration. You can also try to evade your opponent's attacks. Plus, dual wielding causes enemies to die faster. Double the damage and all that stuff. Last but not least, it's simply too cool. ^_^

Wow. Dual wield brothers! Agreed!!

Definately do it. I am a whirl-wind of death. Blocking is for little girls and old ladies.

dual wielding is great - don't forget that some food (beef and vegetable stew) give you sustained stanima regeneration for nearly endless power attacks. DONT bother with the 2nd point in the 1 handed perk that increases the dual wielding speed; it's broken. Just get the first and the 50% damage boost as soon as you can.

Unfortunately, unless you're using bound swords, dual wield is a pain. You cannot equip a weapon in your offhand (except a shield) with a hotkey, unless the weapons are absolutely identical (I.E. Stacked in your inventory) AND equipping any 2 handed item (and some 1-handed ones) will de-hotkey those weapons as well due to an unfixed bug.

I'm doing it now on my stealther. He's primarily an archer with dual wield (sword and dagger) as back-up. It's a nice set-up. Also allows me to have a nice enchantment on the sword (lightning or fire) and soul capture on the dagger for enchantment refuelling.

I've never bothered with shields, ever, to actually block things. I just like the little enchantments they have (like the Estucheon (sp) of Chorrol in Oblivion.)
At the start I used a one-handed blade with a spell in the shield hand, later switched it in for another sword. Prefer more offence to a defence, since you can just power attack your way through Skyrim without consequence.

On harder difficulties, no you shouldn't. Otherwise, it's tactical as you'll kill enemies fast enough to be worth it. On master difficulty it might just get you killed, unless you combo it with the attack-speed shout.

I recommend trying it out, at the very least. Your DPS is so impressive that you don't need to worry overly hard about defense, though properly perking your armor will give you plenty. I always played sword and board in Morrowind and Oblivion, but haven't really found it necessary at all so far in Skyrim. It gives me some different options and strategies, but so far I don't find it any better than dual-wield. If anything, dual-wield or sword and spell fit my playing style better.

If you're having trouble with it at harder difficulty settings, I'd recommend taking some food that buffs your stamina 1 pt. for 720 seconds. It allows for nearly unlimited power attacks for 4 hours in-game. ;)

My first character was a dual wielding Khajiit. At first I struggled with it because you have to hit both right and left attack button at the same time to get a true dual attack, and it took a little while to get the hang of that. Once I got the hang of it, I found dual weilding a very rewarding playstyle. And I alternate between dual attacks and alternating attacks with the right and left hand just to mix it up a bit.

The perks I would take are Armsman (5) and Dual Flurry, Dual Savagery and Fighting Stance. If you invest some basic perks in your heavy armor skill Jauggernaut (5) and Well Fitted, and if you take the Smith perks to double the potential improvement of whatever type of armor and weapon you use, you will have plenty of defense just from your armor.

You cannot block with dual wielding, but from what I can tell, you can reduce damage by up to 85% by armor alone, rendering the defensive value of blocking somewhat moot. The value of blocking seems to be more in the bash perks (and the shield perk that lets you avoid elemental damage) much moreso than in the reduction in physical damage blocking provides.

The tradeoff between dual wielding and other styles that allow you to block is more about which type of offense you prefer, striking with two weapons or alternating between weapon strikes and weapon/shield bashes.
