I've been playing for over a hundred hours and I just realized I haven't seen a single Spriggan.

Spriggins are mostly in the southern areas and around ponds/groves. They are hard early on and get laughably easy later on.

They are in the game but agreeably sparse. No complaint about that but I've been going since release, figure I've killed about 4, maybe 5.

If you really want to see a Spriggan, head to Whiterun's Kynareth temple and have a chat with the priestess, she'll sort you out.

on my first play through, during which i traveled off road for the majority of the time, i never seen 1 saber. In all subsequent playing throughs i've seen tons of them. i dunno if they just bugged out on my first play through, but i couldn't find one anywhere.

Spriggins are pretty lame in Skyrim, they were much more of a challenge in Oblivion summoning a bear to attack you.

I feel the opposite way. I found them easy in Oblivion but they are much more dangerous in Skyrim.

I think it may depend on your play style. I play ranged characters, usually pure mages. Skyrim's Spriggans are much faster than Oblivion's, plus Beth screwed up the backpedalling so you can't even really back up and attack any more (pretty silly for ranged characters, and unrealistic).

I feel differntly about this, in Oblivion I thought they was pathetic now they can control a huge contingent of animals and attack you. They shoot bees or something out of there hands and turn into wisp of leaves they are much more epic and in tune with nature this time and that is the way a nature guardian should be.

I didn't see more than two or three fast travelling all the time. The second I started walking everywhere I ran into them constantly.

No more than 20 in about 250 hours of play. I may have seen more, but there are times when I choose to advance in the other direction ;)
