Anyone still use the Longbow? (or other low level items)

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:21 pm

Hello.
During my most recent playthrough, I decided to give my character a Robin Hood feel, but the only bow really sutible for the job was the Longbow.
This got me thinking; What is it like to do an entire playthrough until high levels, using only level 1 gear (Longbow, iron/steel weapons, Iron/hide sheilds, iron/hide/leather/studded/fur armours)
It must obviously be considerably harder, but must add to the immersion quite a bit.
Has anyone had a go at this?

Yes, I use steel myself. and a dwarven bow. Anything above makes the game too easy (for me).

Leather-ish armor? (The mod that adds witcher armor boys/girls) It has a poor AR, so it is basically the same thing.

Not the longbow, but I stick with a hunting bow for a long time. Much faster then high end bows.
Steel is awsome. The nord hero weapons are lighter then anything. Too bad you can't smith the NH bow.

With a 100 in smithing and enchanting, you can turn the low level items into very powerful items.

Even though i have about every type of bows in the game, i can't put
my Nightingale Bow back in my inventory. The only thing i mix
with it are hardmode and using steel or iron tips.

i like the look and feel of the lower level items better, the only exception to this for me is ebony. but for the most part i just smith low level gear and keep using it :)

I'm disappointed with nord hero stuff. It's the ugly ass draugr gear with different colors.

I make it a point not to wear any metal armor.
Lether or fur mostly but as far as weapons go I do style first. Which also leaves me with lower end gear because I prefer the traditional European weapons look/feel to the flashy toys some people think are weapons.

Hildi uses Stormcloak armour (and has 33 Smithing) but she does allow herself the best weapons she can find or make.

Don't think he means that, I gave up on creating super strong weapons/armor when I ruined my first playthrough 6 months ago.

I only use armors and weapons which I like the look of. In my Nord warrior's case that means fur/leather and a hunting bow. I have installed some mods, though, which allows me to craft those items using different materials giving them higher dmg and armor ratings for the higher levels. I don't consider that cheating as I'm a master smith and should be able to forge materials exactly the way I like. But I go all out for the best look, not the highest ratings. I just can't do that kind of power play. If you're on PC, go look for some nice weapon mods and you'll find low level bows suited for higher levels.

I use the hunting bow. I like the fire rate campared to the Daedric and ebony bows. My character is level 58. I don't one shot bosses and dragons but with stagger I can keep them out of melee range. I rarely have to use the sword unless I want to run up my one-handed and light armor skills.

I'm currently using a Forsworn Bow. Very good bow you can get very early on.

Oh, you're going to love the first 2 links in my sig. Master diff, long bow, iron arrows, hide armor, no sneak, no melee, no smithing, no enchanting. Just pure archery goodness (with a truckload of poisons). It's a bit of a nightmare on master (as you can see in the vid), but on adept it's very strong.

I kinda did this. When I got to like 30 somthing I started losing interest in my bowman. So i started wearing plain clothes & using a long bow. I loved it and regained interest and now he's my most played character.

Yep. Hide armor, hunting bow, and Skyforge steel greatsword for my barbarian. She does use ebony arrows, though.

I use the Longbow still and it works like a charm because of my perks in the skill tree for archery.

I only rock hooded Thalmor robes, gloves, and boots because it makes my character look more Assassin's Creed-ish, which doesn't count as armor, and a Longbow with Iron Arrows. I use hand to hand when up close and personal, but I am a Khajiit, so I get a bonus to hand to hand damage.

I use the Imperial closed helm with matching guantlets, ancient nordic boots with fur armor (the shorts only version) and the imperial shield

as for weapons ebony mace, ebony axe, Headmans axe, daedric bow, daedric battle axe and the skyforge sword

ofcourse everything is enchanted so even with an armor rating of only 300 or so i still kick major [censored]

On my sword and board paladin, I use the dragonscale armor and shield. For weapons I only use skyforge sword, war axe, and blades sword. With the exception of the glass sword, I really don't like any of the other light weapons, did not want to waste the extra perks on this character. But I really like the scimitar, just trying to figure out how to justify it. I honestly feel that my two favorite weapons are the scimitar and the skyforge war axe. My third favorite is the skyforge battle axe
