I am thinking about doing both with my currently sword n' board Orc. I get bored sometimes, and think it would be cool to switch between the two play styles and have it still fit the RP.
I came up with this for a build: http://skyrimcalculator.com/#159055
I don't improve my gear at all, but I want to be able to create dragon weapons (if I can ever get my smith skill that high)
I train and put perks into both 1H and 2H as well as light and heavy armor. It just doesn't make sense to me that a Nordic warrior is somehow amazing at swinging a battleaxe but cant hurt a fly with a longsword.

Both armors too, huh? That sounds fun, actually. Maybe I should put perks into light armor instead of smithing?

Yeah, I use light armor when just traveling around, doing bounties etc. I put heavy armor on when I know I'm going to a place where I'm going to be fighting a lot of tougher enemies and don't care as much about how much loot I can haul back. I also have a mod that makes hypothermia an issue and certain armors give a better protection against the cold. Typically light armor is better for that then heavy armor, so sometimes I'll just use scaled and fur to survive to cold.
