Anyone use normal characters?

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 6:41 pm

I seem to be the minority here but does anyone else enjoy playing regular characters?

Don't get me wrong, using the Voice can be a lot of fun but on some characters, like a Khajiit or High Elf I don't feel right using the Th'um, so I never let those characters become dragonborn. ( Yes, I know you ARE dragonborn, but for RP purposes I ignore it entirely. ) Am I alone on this?

In the context of the game normal is Dragonborn, it's just a matter of when you find out. Alduin leveled Helgen with the goal of taking out the Dragonborn before he/she became a threat. If you drag you feet long enough during the attack Alduin will kill you outright.

That said there is nothing stopping you from becoming highly distracted and not moving the plot ball forward for a really long time.

I would.. if only for one thing. The fact that each character sounds like a Nord, and EACH shout is Nordic. Even as an Argonian.. you sound like a Nord. Why?

I made a Dark Elf and only went to Riverwood. Didn't continue the MQ at all. Just roamed. It svcks cause I found most of the words for shouts because of my Dark Elf lol.

But I understand where you're getting at.. I'm part of your minority as well. But my main character IS a Nord.. soo.. ya XD

Well the answer is in the question isn't it?

You ARE the Dragonborn and it is the main quest.

People will try playing differently after they've tried playing normally.

I had a couple of characters in "Oblivion" who were oblivious to the main quest and kept the Amulet of Kings for themselves.

I'm playing as a regular person too, haven't used shouts or anything, just having fun roleplaying in skyrim.

In fact, I've been ignoring the main quest totally. I'm eventually going to finish the main quest for the achievements, but other than that, not really bothered.

I'm currently playing a female dark elf assassin/thief/heavy armor hybrid.. Won't touch the main storyline for that exact reason, did it on my orc and it was just weird..

My second character is not Dragonborne. He is a nord, but thats it.

Stopped advancing the main quest right before the dragons, don't want to spoil more. So for me no dragons, no shouts, no dragonborne.

He is dedicated to killing of every evil creature. He is something like the Vigilants of Stendarr. Shame we can't work for them or join them. They have a nice little base of operations, where one could live.

So now my hero, just walks Skyrim with his wife and his horse, looking for evil on the roads.

Yes, I have around 4 savefiles for different characters and 2 of them are not really bothered about the fate of Skyrim and only care about dragons if one gets in their way. One is a vampire summoner, servant of Molag Bal who likes to hunt and eat the followers of Stendarr and the other is a Falmer sympathiser. :chaos:

Play normal characters? I'm on my second character, and no, I'm playing dragon born. But I USE normal people to get what I want with this character. Heh.

I completely ignore the main quest on all my non-Nord characters. In fact, I haven't even gone to the Greybeards in any of my save files as I find there's still plenty of stuff to do with my Bosmer thief/assassin. I'll probably do a speedrun with a Nord warrior sometime in the future, just to check out the main quest. Not for a while yet though.

My Orc hasn't even spoken to Alvor at Riverwood, he's just wandering, discovering places, visiting all of the Orc Strongholds, and doing misc quests where he finds them. No Dragonborn story for him.

I'm doing this right now. I'm playing a dunmer assassin that won't be anywhere close to the main quest.

In every TES game so far, i've only ever played the main quest with the first character. Every other character, and there've been a few, has avoided it entirely. I've just finished the mq with my first character in Skyrim and am now starting out with my first real character, a mage. (Apprehensive about how exactly that'll turn out, given the *ahem* changes made to the magic system.)

i only use shout to run faster, and i think their useless in combat, well maybe the dragon shout one, and the dragon summon. but i don't use those either.

I find this amusing, though. Had he not done so, you never would have escaped. He's the whole reason you get to interfere. XD

Anywho, as for this... none of my characters so far are dragonborns. I still do the main quest and stuff, but other than the shouts you're forced to get, I don't learn them, nor use them. Still, dragon materials are very handy to have, and the only character I have who doesn't care for that is my mage, whom hasn't even reported to Balgruf yet.

My fifth character will be a dragonborn, though. A nord build up with all the stuff I liked best from my experience in each of the four main factions, and with the might of the Thu'um at their disposal. They wield Flames in one hand, an electric Waraxe in another, and breath ice. They'll be a lot of fun to play as.

Does it count if you always forget you have shouts and only remember them after a fight and thus never use them?

If you read the Dragonborn book, you'll discover its possible lore-wise for any race to be Dragonborn, really.
