Anything I should know about Skyrim for the PC?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 1:04 pm

I originally got Skyrim for the PS3, and now that I have my new laptop (which can play New Vegas on High settings with no lag what-so-ever :celebration: ), I'm considering getting it for the PC. Are there any outstanding problems with the PC version I should know about? I already know my video card can play Skyrim on Medium.

Khajiit thanks you in advance.

UI might be a problem...though I'm sure you will get comments already saying that (perhaps exaggerating). Check the UESP for common PC bugs too so you can avoid them. Other then that...enjoy skyrim at it's best. with mods lol. (and the fantastic console commands)

I think what Exordiom is trying to say is that the interface is really, really awkward to use with a mouse. With a controller or the keyboard, it's bearable, but the mouse is just so inefficient. I'm used to using the mouse for most of my PC-based RPGs as well, so it's kind of a letdown that they streamlined the whole thing for console use.

Yeah this is what I meant.

If you're playing on the PC you owe it to yourself to check out TESVAL:

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1323303-tesv-acceleration-layer-thread-4/

Other than that, enjoy the game. Stability-wise there's nothing more than than the usual occasional random CTDs that are typical with Bethesda games and to be honest none at all of those since the offical 4GB fix was released. Smooth as butter for many many hours of gameplay, guess it really was a needed mod/fix for most people.

The UI isn't that bad. It could use some work but don't worry about it.

People are exagerating when they talk about how horrible god-awful stupid crappy and dumtastic the UI is.

You'll want to get http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1321657-tesv-acceleration-layer-offers-cpu-optimization-massive-possible-performance-increases-now-in-skse-plugin-format/. It's going to give you a huge performance boost. You're welcome.

Sorry - I completely disagree as do countless others. This is probably the worst UI in a decade of released games.

I agree. The major problem with Skyrim on the PC is the UI control- In other words how you control your items and swords and stuff. it`s very bad and awkward. You can get by, but you`ll realise how stuff that should take a second, takes like 5 because it`s so inefficient. I don`t know what happened to Bethesda when they made the UI, but it`s as if they want to force everyone onto a controller. It`s obvious that Bethesda cared only for smooth control for gamepads and screw the mouse and keyboard, yet it`s the mouse and keyboard that Bethesda games (and all CRPG) games were born on.

Terrible decision by Bethesda and it amazes me that they don`t seem to care at all.

That and Steam.

Also bear in mind you can use an Xbox 360 controller without any configuration, or a PS3 controller with a bit of configuration on the PC and it works fine :)

Just discovered SkyUI on the mod forums. My game is now 100% better. :)

Guess Bethesda just decided that `Modders will fix the PC version`.

Lazy. Thank Heaven for Modders- and the PC.

Since you have a uber laptop, get those texture mods now! :D
Although maybe not, might wanna play through a character in vanilla version first.
