Aphex Twin rip-off

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:03 pm

At the Fort, the music sounds just like a track from Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works II. Anyone notice? Unabashed rip-off. If I were Richard D. James I'd be phoning my lawyer.

On a tangential note I'm really enjoying the old-school Fallout tunes slipped in there.

This may actually be Mark Morgan's tracks perhaps? (I've seen it posted that some of his original FO tracks were thought to resemble Aphex Twin's work.)

It's only a rip-off if it's not licensed. Do you have access to any information regarding that?

... you also realize that electronic artists use sampling a lot... What you recognize as coming from Aphex Twin might in reality be coming from who knows where?

... assuming Gizmo isn't correct.

Damn ninja :P

Well, it could be from the earlier games, although I don't remember it and I was listening to Aphex Twin back then.

And it's not a sample but rather the exact same track without as much as a hair's breadth of difference, although it's definitely not the exact same piece of music (not licensed). When it fist came on I thought it was sampled/licensed but there are some very minor changes to the rhythm.

Many of the ambient tracks in the original fallout were duplicates of many famous ambient artist's works, New Vegas uses some of the original fallout 1 tracks. Its an homage to the original works, and its cool that some real excellent music makes its way into the game (not just the boring radio station music).

Not unless he wrote those tunes in like 1991.

As much as I love Mark Morgan and his wonderful soundtracks, Aphex Twin did not rip him off, it was the converse. Interplay sent him a disc of music to use as inspiration, some of which was from Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works II, which Mark clearly imitated. In Fallout 2, you can actually hear one of Aphex Twin's tracks in the game from Selected Ambient Works II, and one of the robots says, "Humanoid Must Not Escape," which is a track by Casutic WIndow, an alias of Aphex Twin.

Mark Morgan is great, but Aphex Twin is a legend.

This is all custom music done for Fallout (2, 3 or New Vegas). There are no rip-offs here, I am very much enjoying the job Inon Zhur did with this game!

I know that I read somewhere that they were blending bits of (MM's) FO tracks into New Vegas in one or a few places.

Yeah, I'm picking up all kinds of little bits of the old soundtrack and sound effects from the first 2 Fallouts thrown in there in odd places. It kind of reminds me of the soundtrack from Metroid Prime 2 in that way. I like it.
