Appreciation and suggestions for H0RSE's Compendium.

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:54 am

I spent about half an hour to an hour reading all the way through the compendium today, and it taught me a lot that I didn't know, although there are bits that I believe to be wrong, perhaps just out dated, like the story of the Ark, but all in all, I really like it, and appreciate the time and effort put into it, so I thought I'd let everyone show H0RSE their appreciation too, and give them a place to do it.

Also I think here would be a good place to make suggestions to H0RSE for changes.

I'm not being critical, as I said I appreciate the time and effort you've put into this H0RSE, but I think there's more you can add about the stories of both the Ark and the factions, or just change the wording maybe.

I personally would have written,

"The Ark was sent off in 2025, as part of a green scheme. The program went well, until around 2030 when the man made island lost communication with the rest of the world, planes stopped flying over, and the amount of refugees coming to the Ark became uncopable. The resources on the island were stretched, causing the refugees to revolt against the security forces on the island, scrounging what they could, making their own armors, and using what ever weapons they could find to try and fight for what little food they could get their hands on. On the other hand the well equipped security forces fight for peace on the island, as they have all they need provided for them, the Revolution see them as oppressive, but they see themselves as an important part of keeping the island up and running. As a player you come into the game in 2045, and can play through campaigns of both the Security and the Revolution, and create unique character's for both sides."

Again, I'm not being picky, I just think we may as well make the most of the compendium and make it as good as possible so no one has to keep repeating themselves on posts, and so new people interested in the game can find all the information in one place, which I think is H0RSE's reason for creating the compendium in the first place.

I read Version 2 today, I'm not saying I don't like it, I'm just saying it might be nice to give him a little help, the more people, the easier for him.

The Ark story in the Compendium is mostly copied from the official website, and the rest was filled in from commentary on CC vids. It's not something I "made up, " so I'm not the one you should be critical of, in that department.

It doesn't matter how accurate or informative the compendium is. There is always gonna be people who are impatient and want instant gratification for their questions.

I have already offered to help and couldn't we just discuss this on the compendium? I am sensing a horse plot.

I actually said I wasn't being critical, and I've seen all the brink videos and read the backstory on the website, and the story I posted is the one on those so I don't think you did copy and paste it off the official website.

Fair enough, so you're taking most people on this forum for idiots that won't read it first. No?

Firstly I think you need to chill. And I don't think they're idiots. I just don't think they know about it or don't want to read a huge wall of text to answer one simple question. I think thats what horse meant about instant gratification

and the story I posted is the one on those so I don't think you did copy and paste it off the official website.

Here is what it says on the official site:

"Built in the near-future as part of a contemporary green vision, the Ark was a model for sustainable living. The massive man-made floating city became a home to the scientists and thinkers focused on making the vision a reality, while its wealthy patrons built a recreational paradise.

But soon the threat of a global environmental crisis became real: glaciers melted, sea levels rose, and the very survival of humanity was threatened. Thousands from around the globe fled to the Ark as a last hope. Refugees clung to survival however they could, while the original founders and their descendants struggled to maintain the island.

Now, the Ark has lost contact with what remained of the mainland and exists in total isolation. As the Ark's supposedly renewable resources dwindle, the balance of power threatens to unravel and throw competing social factions into a horrific conflict.

With tensions growing, Security and Resistance forces are locked in a heated battle for control of the Ark. Which side will you choose?"

Here is what it says in the Compendium: (everything the same is highlighted red)

"Brink takes place on the Ark. Built in the near-future as part of a contemporary green vision, the Ark was a model for sustainable living.

Now, existing in 2045, A whole generation has grown up on the Ark, and while it was originally supposed to house around 5,000 people, it now houses around 50,000.

As you can see , as I originally stated, the story in the Compendium is mostly copied from the official website, and the rest was filled in from commentary on CC vids. Simple reading on your part could have avoided me making you look stupid.
Fair enough, so you're taking most people on this forum for idiots that won't read it first. No?

No, I take them for what I originally stated - impatient and wanting instant gratification for their questions. How many times have I (or others) had to reiterate something to a user, that was explained in the Compendium? Lots of times. Some people want a question answered the moment they have it, and don't want to have to read through something to find it (which would probably avoid future questions from popping up.) They would rather just post multiple questions when they come up, than read through the Compendium which may actually answer them all (and then some).

That's barely the bit off the official site, that's the little breakdown bit... Now get off your high horse and accept my gratitude.

THANK YOU. Other than being a complete ass hole, that was all i was looking for. I just joined [censored] yesterday. You people shouldn't be such pricks over stupid [censored]. I like the Compendium BTW.

It still doesn't change the fact that the "Appreciation" part of "Appreciation and suggestions for the Compendium," just seems like an added word, to make you seem less critical and/or demanding. And your "suggestions" don't really "suggest" anything, and seem like nothing more than, "this is how I want to see it done."

I still fail to see any gratitude in your posts, at least any sincere gratitude.

HAHA. That was me. And, if you could read, i just said that you were coming across as an ass hole, which is only one curse word directing at you. The others were simply adjectives and nouns about a COMPLETELY separate topic. I actually didn't say anything about my opinion on how the compendium should be, just that i liked it. LEARN TO READ, before misquoting. Thank you.

Woah. Horse ball licking gone wrong =P

Chill out dudes, the guy made the compendium whithout anybody asking. Maybe its not perfect, maybe it doesent have every bit of info ever said about the game, or maybe its not said in a way that pleases you, but the fact remains that if new people actually read the compendium before posting the forums would be a much better place. And thats a damn fine job by my book.

The guy is a respectable member of the community and is always willing to help people. The fact that you try to say " I wanna be like you, I love you (check out my totally-not-obvious [censored] kissing username) but I want you to do stuff how I like" only plays against you.

Im also a new member of the community and dont really care of being one of the big guys here, its just that the way in which you express yourself is highly contradictory from the get-go, and not to mention funny...

That was the only curse in that quote, but I was also referring to other posts you made in that thread (which got locked by the way, due to your less than admirable behavior)

Like this gem here:

"So, i've been reading around everywhere (and this includes the [censored] compendium, for those of you that spam that [censored] any time someone is confused) and i still have no idea what the online multiplayer will be like."

The point is, regardless of where the curses were directed, they show your attitude and demeanor, which came off as less than appealing.

The others were simply adjectives and nouns about a COMPLETELY separate topic.

They actually weren't "COMPLETELY" different, seeing that they were in the same thread, discussing the same topic.

I actually didn't say anything about my opinion on how the compendium should be, just that i liked it.

I never said you did - That is what Poorly Horse did. I never even mentioned anything about you, other than confusing the 2 of you for the cursing.

LEARN TO READ, before misquoting. Thank you.

Perhaps you should take this advice, or to be more accurate, "LEARN TO READ, before making assumptions and accusations that aren't there."

Ohohohoho, You were taking the whole thread into the statement. Sorry, thought you just meant my response. And the cursing in the beginning was merely in good nature, kind sir. Seriously. Don't be so uptight.

I take things as I see them, and being on a forum (which is just typed words) looking at things in "good nature," is a bit a tough, with no context clues or other means to differentiate them (like smileys, or lol)
