I'm arachnaphobic and playing skyrim

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:57 am

I'm only saying now cause I recently had an encounter with three frostbite spiders and died, I got really embarrassed and annoyed. I died because I'm afraid of spiders (in real life) and ran away when I turned the spider was mid-lunge and I got very creeped out. Is there a setting to disable spiders and replace them?

If you're on console, you'll just have to get over them eventually if you want to play.

If you're on PC, there's mods.

Then you may have to find a way to turn that fear into a genocidal, Frost Spider killing hatred. And if you train your Sneak and Archery, you'll never have to get close to them again. ;)

I personally think spiders in this game are awesome, but I suppose everybody has their phobias.

They took an already horrid creature...and made it giant, spiky, hairy, and realistic...Bethesda will pay for that

If you've ever seen some of the realistic vfx spider models available, you'd be very grateful that Bethesda didn't go in this direction. :P

I've found that if a spider suddenly drops from the ceiling in front of me I will close my eyes and spam the hit button and hope for the best.

Personally I have a problem crossing a certain whalebone bridge - but that's a whole 'nother phobia.

The spiders that are in the tutorial? I'm sorry I have no idea how it feels to be arachnophobic. Maybe you could avoid them by always being with a follower. If you flee, the follower will take care of them and you could help from a distance?

Surely squishing bigger versions of the thing you're afraid of with it having no chance to hurt you would help a little?

I would have to disable one of my favorite mods if I was an Arachniphobe. I also dislike the idea of falling off of a log or the Whalebone Bridge, I have a healthy fear of the sudden stop at the end. The one opponent in the game that will always get me are the Afflicted in Peryites Quest

I've had a bit of phobia regarding bees since I was very young, I have been continuously stung by wasps. I've always been afraid of them since of their personality (bite for no reason). My phobia is neither deeply rooted or extreme but I can tell you that eventually I decided to use either wasp killer or an aerosol spray to weaken them if they do come across my property. I then avoid their twittering body and try to go throughout the day. In Fallout New Vegas there are not only giant bees, but those creepy wasp-like mutations that poison you (don't remember the name) its probably just my personality, but instead of fear when I come across these things I feel more annoyed than anything else, and their death satisfies me. Remember that it is a game and if they try attack you, 99% of the time you can run past them if your fears are truly that deeply rooted. Then again there is always the use of "~ kill".

Ah don't worry, we all have our fears.
I have one to, though i am not sure what it is.
However, when i am in a museum...i always try to avoid the old or damaged corpses, they give me the chills. But i have no problem with the nightmother and the burnt corpses in skyrim.

So i am not sure.

Because this is a cartoon spider and youre a big cartoon hero this is actually a good way to tackle your fear.

If you avoid your fear, you only make it stronger.
Go kill a few, its statisfying.
