Archery takes FOREVER to level

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:38 pm

I am level 28and my archery skill is only 55. I am playing on expert, and am dying a LOT because I can't deal enough damage before enemies get to me and my light armor skill is only 35 or so. Any suggestions to level it faster besides paying for training?

1. Make sure you take the Warrior stone

2. Don't use fast travel

3. Make sure you shoot everything you see, wild animals, rabbits, etc.

Thats all I got.

If you're not using stealth or a companion and your primary combat skill is archery, you need to do a lot of sprint kiting until you get some of the nicer perks. Or you could start using conjuration or illusion to keep monsters off your back.

Combine it with sneak. Might give yourself a fighting chance.

It doesn't need to be that high to be deadly, especially if you use an enchanted bow and/or poisons.

Be sure to use the Well Rested bonus.

While the skill itself naturally takes longer to level than others is simply due to the damage output. It gets much easier later on due to perks that raise damage output by XX%. However in the meantime, I suggest learning some basic alchemy and produce as many paralyze potions as you can to use if your having that much of a problem with enemies. Also, make sure to grab as many EXP effects as possible (Warrior Stone, Well Rested Bonus), and it wouldn't hurt to have a few enchantments (regardless of how abysmal -- bow damage XX%). And heavy sneaking with the respective Sneak perk (x3.0) will make it somewhat more bearable.

I don't know how to do the spoiler tags, but you could always use this to gain a few levels for free:

Took me forever to get my archery to 100 i paid to level it as much as i could until the price got to dare. The end perk is nice but in stealth you can just about 1 shot kill most anything outside of dragons.

Your light armor's only 35 at level 28 eh. Ok then time for you to go play with some mudcrabs
Also, you might wanna go for the enchanting smithing combo if you're having a hard time. And yes archery does take quite a while to level. Though i got it to level quite fast as i liked playing with giants when i was at a lower level :D

1.stealth
especialy the x3 bow damage, and the shadow warrior line

2. archery perks are critical !!!
you need the zoom-in, slow time, critical ....

3. light armor (with perks for stealth light armor) or no armor
no heavy armor

4. companion must be stealth
jenassa or faendal

5. don t do the smith-alchemy-enchant cheat early on
to raise your archery you need to use it
if you one-hit-kill everything, you will no get practice and will not get better

6. lots of stamina potion to keep things in slow motion

note: I ve always played master, I did the early 5 levels alone, just stealth and bow
you should focus on stealth first and bow second
if you cant get out of a tight spot, your bow skill is useless
this isnt a sword, you cant do close quarters

learn to use sprint (it s how you get away... then hide with stealth, come back, shoot them again)

remap your keys

I use arrows to move, sprint is on control, jump on upper-case, stealth on alt (I m always on stealth + always on run)

you can stealth-run and stealth-sprint

latter when you do upgrade your weapons with smithing + enchant ... you will be deadly
