Are Brink & Rage set in the same "universe"?

As the topic title says : are these games both set in the same universe?

I started wondering after I saw the Rage 2009 Quakecon trailer ( link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a--zbG_K9kI stop at 0:24 for the Ark info). That and the fact that brink also involves an Ark made me wonder of the similarities of the game : post-apocalyptic set up, arks being the pinnacle of humanity...

We could argue that the games varies in the design departement, Rage is more real life design while Brink is a little cartoonish ( see the faces) but I think that is more of a dev decision.
We could also argue that these games are set in different places: Rage is set on a wasteland with mutants while Brink is set in the sea (with no mutants...yet) but that also doesn't mean it contradicts anything, humanity is shattered and doesn't seems to be able to contact others surviving pockets, for what i've read, in Brink, all the population surrounding the Ark is totally cut from the rest of the world so they probably have no idea of what is currenty going on in the lands.

there is also the fact of the relationship between Id & SD that could facilitate my guesses.

Anyway this is my 2 cent theory out of boredom, feel free to nullify my theory but a word from a dev or mod would be appreciated so I wouldn't have to make guesses anymore.

its just the thing for fps-rpg games. im sure fallout involved a ark, and idk about borderlands but wouldnt be surprised. the games are not the same, so it should not matter, its just the story & look that have similarities

This is just a coincidence...these two titles are not dealing with the same game universe.

Daww, it'd be so cool to have a major story twist where security land where Rage takes place, complete with high tech weaponry and vehicles.

i kind of have higher hopes for rages world than brinks world. have you noticed that pandora has been used way to much lately. its like they are incapable of actually thinking of an original name.

Both of the games seem to be among the most promising games for 2011..i love both so far for their style, and graphic design (and there is still time for improvements till 2011)....i hope they will deliver a good solid gameplay...

If it would make you happy I'm sure you could mentally linked the games since they take place in different time-frames (I believe Rage is 2100 and Brink is 2045?), unless in-game history information completely voids the possibility.

Officially though I've seen no connection.

In regards to Xdc mentioning Fallout and Borderlands, both games have "Arks" (called Vaults), though Borderland's is believed to be of alien descent and not a refuge.

Do people know anything about the stories? Brink takes place on the planet earth after global warming creates mass floods and forces thousands of people to move to the ark, while Rage tajes place in a time where the earth was hit by an asteroid and it killed a large number of people. And let's not forget that borderlands isn't even set on the planet earth.
