Are marriages always so... hectic?

Yesterday evening I was bored so, before going to sleep, I tried something I never did before with my 4 characters I've played so far: getting married in Skyrim.

I buy Mara's amulet, go to one of my housecarl (Jordis) and pick the dialogue. See you in the temple!
Everything is set... I can't say I'm impressed the way it works but I already knew that, and that's the reason why I never bothered to complete this "quest". I wasn't, however, prepared to the events that unfolded in the temple of Mara, in Riften!

Waiting for me there are a few "guests", including a couple of Jarls for whom I did some quests in the past; I recognize also a few other people I helped and now they're showing their gratitude dropping by at my wedding. Nice.

Wait... my soon-to-be spouse is wearing her housecarl outfit: a heavy armor and a shield too! I know Nords don't have good taste for dresses but I expected her to wear a proper wedding dress. :ermm: Never mind. The real show starts when one of my guests breaks the silence shouting "You will die!".

Soon afterwards a battle starts between two groups of people, priests included! Most of them are essential, anyway, so at the end I've the floor littered with people on their knees. There's also a naked argonian I don't reckognize: I'm sure he's always the first one to start the fight while the others just take a side in the battle. Meanwhile I'm stuck near the door and I cannot move: I opened the console and tried to type "enableplayercontrols" but, oddly, it doesn't work.

What a marriage! I swear I'll never try to marry any other of those savage Skyrim inhabitants! Scary people, all of them!

Indeed. Marriages without at least one fight is considered a most dull affair :P

On a more serious note: Sounds like the NPC VI(virtuel intelligence) messed up. Not a funny situation to be in.

There are a couple of vids on Youtube which show something similar. I don't know the guy who starts the fight (I really cannot remember helping an argonian, save for that one in Dark Water Crossing who was captured by Falmers) and why he goes hostile against other NPCs. I also wonder why he's naked as I don't loot armor off fallen enemies nor I ever used pickpocket to steal clothes.

I'm lucky that I don't care for marriage but if I really did, it would be really @!#$!! that my character, after 100+ hours of gameplay and countless quests solved, cannot access this. I've adopted the habit to create a new save game every ten saves but I cannot really imagine backtracking 100+ saves for a quest loosing all the progress so far.

As funny as this glitch sounds, it shouldn't happen.

Since you're on PC, you should download UFO - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=14037
This makes you able to take away all her heavy armour, and replace it with a nice dress (however, do this when she is your follower, BEFORE you ask her to marry you!!).

And the wedding, well, what do you expect? They probably all dropped off at the Meadery before hand, just make sure to keep Jordis away from the alcohol after you're married

Despite taking part in the battle and throughout enjoying it, Jordis is angry at me for having ruined this special day with a "free for all" in the temple before the ceremony.
