The vigilants of stendarr are not real vamp/werewolf hunters there just the neighborhood watch that thinks there real hunters killing them is the best thing you can possibly do to help them.

The Vigilant of Stendarr seem to have one purpose and one purpose only. Flavor. They never actually do anything. The have no associated quests. They just show up for random encounters and try to look pretty.

I figure they probably would have hunted down the player at one point. I mean, they're even set up as "enemies" because killing them causes their two bases to become "cleared" on the map. But as it stands, you can be the world's greatest daedric worshiper and they just don't seem to care.

well... in markarth is a certain quest that coould be considered as one. not long though, since the quest starts to get... darker... soon after it begins.

it does start as a quest of the vigilants though

That's a Daedric quest, though. Not a Vigilant quest. The person standing there could have been anybody.

He introduces himself as a vigilant, unless you mean the player.

I am well aware of that. What I was saying is that it could have been some random Joe Shmoe mercenary and the quest really wouldn't have been any different.

So far, no. They are just fun to kill. Might have some role in Dawnguard since they are vampire-hating.

They're just around to offer you expert-level restoration training without having to complete some ridicilous quest involving the revitalization of that one tree which has absolutely no story impact whatsoever.

They're kind of like the Neighborhood Watch from The Boondocks, only less funny.

I don't think so I killed them as well, I always dislike people who force others not to worship something. I do same with the Thalmor whenever I see them I get in distance and pick them off with my bow.
