I think Dawnguard added the random encounter of a hunter turning into a werewolf. When you come across one and try to interact in any manner, they transform and become hostile, so you have no choice but to fight them. You can't catch lycanthropy in this way, though; the only way to become a werewolf is through Companions questline.

Very rare though in my experience-only come across them 2 or 3 times in months, have a skin though....................pity i can add it in my HF home.

They are a new random encounter that you can find right out of the gate but its extremely difficult.

And no you can't contract Lycanthropy from a wild wolf. Companions only.

They also appear in the day.

Yes u can randomly encounter them, but Lycanthropy can only be obtained if you drink the blood of another werewolf so no u cant be infected with it by fighting werewolves. Its not a disease like sanguinare vampiris that can be transmitted with the spell vampiric drain.
