Are you okay with the same holding models and animations?

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2011 9:45 pm

Basically all the "rifles" have the same holding animations as the assault rifle. Kinda disappointments due to the fact that they said there was going to be double the amount of weapons from fallout 3. I just don't want to see the same thing over again, and to add to that the running animation for npc's holding guns do look a little... silly. Their legs are kinda flying and the combat style doesn't look like it's changed. For example, when raiding a camp of Caesars legion, a dude just runs into 3 ncr guys and gets surrounded.... I'll still buy it but I'm just saying. I really hope they do polish some of the stuff I've mentioned.

Personally, I couldn't give a molerat's ass. :)
Then again, I'm not really a gun enthusiast, so I don't notice these things.

Also, some of those previews could be using placeholder animations.

I hope they will. If it is that way, it will be a minor issue. I loved F3, and I won't care if it's not perfect. :D

I wouldn't complain if they added new ones.

im fine with how it is, but if they end up making more animations im cool with that too, and you got to remember that its not finished yet what tthey showed at E3 was only the alpha build, they still needed to do beta build, and so right now the devs are just polishing the game working out bugs making everything shiny so dont worry
and bethesda wont allow them to release the game if its not up to standard

Honestly I thought the brief 3rd person camera that they showed looked much smoother and more natural. I am actually fine with all of the animations for the most part anyway, except for one. The pistol one. It just looks really stupid when you're running with your pistol out. I can understand it being the way it is if the player is stationary but while running I hope it is changed.

As long as I can tell what they're doing, it's good enough.

I've seen this said several times... what does it mean? My character runs everywhere by default, I have to force him to walk.

they've said they redone all the gun animations...

Well if that's there idea of redone animation than I'm sick to my stomach...get to work obsidian time is ticking but coming up with brand new animations at this point seems a little late...they need to start working on bugs full steam.

I like new animations as much as the next person, but just so you know, a new weapon stance requires a base minimum of 38 animations just for aiming and movement -- no fire animations, no reloads, no jams, just aiming and movement. Adding new stances is a very time-consuming process.

I want to see the game in my hands in October so I'm happy with whichever animations will ship. :fallout:

I can believe it!

BTW... 38 distinct (separate) animations Per? Or [just] 38 animations across all of the various creatures that can use the weapon?

Luckily for me I couldn't tell you what the holding models should look like. I've never played any FPS (besides FO3) or held a gun personally so whatever you guys bring to the table doesn't bother me!

The anims are fine. They were awkward already in Fallout 3, and I didn't mind the in there. If they were changed, good, if not, not that good but not worth of [censored]ing either. [censored] up animations is an easy task to get used to if everything else is up to par. So is it? :P

I'm assuming you mean holding the gun from the hip in third person view. I would hate to see the barrel of every gun pointing towards the sky in first person like the AR in F3. :toughninja:

I don't remember it being like that? Do you have a pic because I'm unsure?

Don't care. It all kind of looks the same to me. I won't notice if they're the same or different.

I care more about the roleplay, quests, factions, and gameplay than the frilly aesthetics of whether my wrist is held at the correct angle.

Your last complaint is a particular gripe I have with this game and FO3 as well. As much as it makes it easier to win, it's also kind of annoying to feel like you're playing against retar-uh....combat handicapped enemies.

Yeah it would be cool too walk through the wasteland holding the rifle over your shoulder or feel a kick push you back when you fire more powerful weapons but its not that big of a deal I didn't even care about that because its very minor. It's not like theres a whole lot of ways to hold a rifle anyways.
