Armor Disappointment

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:33 pm

My first venture into Skyrim is tinged with disappointment, my character is a Nord Assassin (lvl 54), i have everything, 2 x daedric daggers which = chillrend and the nightingale blade, a daedric bow for long range assassinations, i have xp100 in Smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting, and fast approaching same in Pickpocket, one-handed, light-armor, plus good xp in speech and lockpicking, however, the only armor i can find worthy of my character is the Nightingale armor, it looks exactly how i would expect my assassin to look, unfortunately i am unable to replicate that look with any of the smithing perks, i have deliberately not taken the perk in Dragon Armor because it does not fit with my character, it may be strong but i would rather forgo the extra strength for something that more suits, that i can make and strengthen with enchantments and smithing. leather armor fit the thieves guild but not an assassin, all the rest are for more warrior types. is there any thought of adding something to the smithing as an extra perk that would perhaps = or come close to the look and feel of the nightingal armor.

There is no reason for an assassin to look "assassin-ish". In fact, a smart sneaker would use a more subtle outfit then something making the wearer noticeable and out of place. I find it weird that the nightinggales would even commission such an outfit, considering that they are supposed to be master thief's.

I personally wish for bethesda to release a few new armors in the upcoming DLC.

When it comes to armor, I want a very wide variety.

I keep hearing about ebony mail. Could you guys tell me where I can find this stuff?

I don't think you can craft it, so can it be found in a dungeon somwhere? If so I'll be right on my horse to go get a set for J'zargo and myself. We currently look a bit mis-matched in Ebony plate and enchanted fur.

a smart assassin wears something casual untill he needs to disappear in the shadows to get something done (think about the real ninja that were in japan, they dressed as servents and civilians the vast majority of the time)

As in, non clunky/overstylized, or ridiculous looking.

Steel plate/dark brotherhood = decent.

Dwarven/glass = ridiculous.

Spoiler
Ebony mail is found during the quest Boethia's (misspelled I think) Calling. Normal Ebony armor is craftable

Dwarves are master artificers, of course their armor is stylized, bland looking armor is boring, which is why iron armor in oblivion svcked but in skyrim banded iron is awesome

A so called "master artificer" would likely prioritize raw functionality and efficiency over style. Dwarven armor designs across all Elder Scrolls games have always appeared incredibly ungainly and laughably difficult for the wearer to maneuver in, let alone see through.

artificer means ART

I hope you aren't basing that entirely upon the first three letters of the word.

No it is common knowledge that an Artificer is one who constructs beautiful works or equipment such as armor or weaponry, a SMITH is one who creates practical things with no emphasis on uniqueness.
