Arrow bug?

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 4:45 pm

Okay I don't know if this is a glitch, or just something the programmers threw in just to annoy me, but sometimes I'll be shooting an arrow at a bad guy, and whether they know I am there or not They will Immediately dodge to the right or left, making my arrow miss, and then alerting them of my presence.

just get the perk that slows down time when you zoom it is a -MUST HAVE- if you are serious about archery, just because it's so awesome, and this will never happen again.

I think it's just coincidence.

If you aim for too long, they tend to move away and then your arrow just misses them, they get alerted and they immediately turn to look, so it looks like they dodged your arrow and immediately see you.

It's definitely not some arrow dodging script 'cause me and many other people have killed so many with arrows :P

Actually, if they are aware of you, they will often dodge arrows. I've noticed before, especially shooting at NPCs sitting down that the twang of the bow alerts them and they immediately sit forward, inadvertently dodging the arrow. Once they're aware of you, if they're locked on to you (i.e. not in combat with another NPC or mob) they will often attempt the arrow dodge.

This may be a quest-specific scenario, but the game is capable of having NPC's know where you are while you are hiding.

I once was waiting for a quest-giving NPC to come out of their locked house by using the wait button for 1 hour. When the hour was up I was greeted by some thugs who quickly took me out (my thief / assassin wasn't prepared).

So, when I reloaded I took a short walk to stand on a very small island in the middle of a large river nearby to wait for the thugs, and pick them off at a distance.

The first 2 went down without me becoming detected. The sneak indicator showed a partially open eye, and the third one was entering the river. Instinctively I retreated back a few steps to gain some extra elevation, and just then the third thug retreated.

He started walking up the coast and over the bridge. I then walked a few steps forward to get a better look, and just like that he turned on a dime and headed back to the shore where he was first coming at me. I then took a few steps back, and the then turned on a dime and started heading across the bridge again.

What I surmise is that every time I went forward and back I was entering and leaving the water, but only ankle deep, not enough to loose the "hidden" status on my sneak indicator. I'm betting that the NPC's path-finding scripts decided that if I were in the water, his shortest route to me was the nearest access point to water (the shore he went to when I was standing in the water). However, the moment I was on dry land his path-finding decided to find the closest piece of land to my chunk of land, which was the shore on the opposite side of the river, across the bridge.

It was definitely a fourth-wall-breaking experience, I could control the NPC's behavior, cause him to make a 180 degree change in direction, merely by taking a step forward or backward into or out of water.

Actually there was this bandit cave. forgot the name of it. Had cages filled with sabrecats. I took out all the archers, and jumped on top of the cages. the enemies would retreat to where i couldn't shoot at them. then i got off the cage and they started coming after me, giving me time to shoot them. then when they got too close I would jump back onto the cage. and they would go to hide again. I think they just can't jump. can't think of how to get to you if you are in an area they don't normally. since then I have found bunches of little exploits like that.

People moves.

Like the sniper.

His enemy can be sitting still for minutes, but when the sniper finally pulls the trigger, the soldier by some random coincidence decides to move as the bullet is being released from the chamber, missing him with less than a second.

It's called luck :)

But this game did not implement the luck stat.
