ATI 11.11 Drivers Released

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 6:24 am

From Andrew D's Twitter.
Yup, thanks. There was no change in performance, and enabling crossfire still gave me a hit to my FPS, so I figured as much. No Skyrim CAP with 11.11, so fret not if it didn't give you a boost.

I'm just getting into PC gaming and I'm really not understanding the whole "driver" thing.

You say that the ATI driver is released. I clicked on your link and seen that it takes me to an AMD website...are they the same things?

Reason I ask is, I was on STEAM yesterday and seen that they have an AMD driver update. I d/loaded it and installed it and tried to load up STEAM again and got an "error" screen on their "store, news and community" pages. Then I tried to load up Skyrim and the game wouldn't start.

I figured that AMD and ATI were 2 different things and that the AMD driver I had d/loaded and installed didn't work on an ATI system. So then I did a "system restore" and things went back to normal...so having said all that I'm kinda worried about d/loading that link and now wondering what do I do?

I tried the Steam AMD update after trying to force my hardware to search for new updates came back negative. I had hoped it would fix all the graphical crashes I was having with the game. Instead, it got worse and I ended up restoring my computer to how it was when I first installed Skyrim. Reset the audio setting to the recommended setting and the game worked perfectly fine. Well, until the next time I tried to turn it on and all the graphical/crash-to-desktop glitches returned.

Try going back to default graphics settings, then selecting your perfered settings. I had to do this with the DLL fix that is floating around for it to work correctly.

Well aside from low FPS here and there I'm not having near the problems that I'm reading here on these boards. I hope that this PC patch Bethesda is working on fixes things for everyone.

So hows the new 11.11 drivers?. I can play the game in my Intel/Nvidia rig just fine (even tho there are annoying Fps dips to 40's in some areas), but my wife cant play it on her pc with a 4870x2 video card, just crazy lag. Hoping drivers would make a difference and make it atleast "playable".

So...the driver update link obviously updates your driver but what does the Profile/CAP update do?

It helps people with crossfire. 2 cards in their computer. Better performance.

Surprising since the Skyrim CAP hasn't been released yet. https://twitter.com/#!/CatalystCreator

Does this work for the AMD Radeon HD 6800 series? Or is it a specific driver only?

Okay, so STEAM must detect what video driver you have and offer the lastest updates for that driver.

By the looks of things I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

My video card seems to be an ATI Radeon 5670 HD (with a Dxdiag version of 32 bit unicode...is that the 32 or 64 bit you're talking about?)
Steam auto-detects your hardware then downloads the most recent drivers for you. The AMD 11.11 drivers are probably out, but they're just a preview version or a release candidate version before the official, final drivers are released on their website. Honestly, I'd wait to download drivers until you either have an official release, or you can get a link for AMD's website that has the download.

Also, your OS is Windows 7 Home Premium ~64 bit~ so you have a 64 bit system. So if you go to AMD's website (AMD and ATI merged a while back, so they're the same thing now) and mouse over "Find a Driver" near the top right corner, you'd enter this:

Desktop Graphics
Radeon HD series
Radeon HD 5xxx PCIe
Windows 7 - 64 Bit

AMD owns ATI. The "ATI" name was retired and is now simply "AMD". It's the same company. :)

Just hard crashed even with the new driver installed. No change whatsoever for me. Got a Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 on win7. Black screen --> unresponsive --> sound looping ---> need to reboot computer.

Don't worry, in about 48 hours from a good source, they expect to have a "hotfix" set out for skyrim with full crossfire support and potentially some visual/performance improvements. (hotfix based on ATI driver set 12.1 beta)
