ATICCC Specific Tweaks?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:16 am

Anyone know of any good settings to use in CCC with regards to Skyrim? or maybe just a good comprehensive guide that covers this?

The main (and pretty much only) thing I'm interested in is AA settings and how/if they effect Skyrim specifically. (For example: MSAA, Adaptive MSAA and SSAA)
Also something I'm curious about is whether you need to match the in-game AA settings if you custom AA settings in CCC? (I read this somewhere.)
Oh, and how good is MLAA and is it something I should even care about?

Anyway, if you happen to know any good tweaks/tweak guides for an AMD/ATI users I'd really appreciate if you could share them with me.

Thanks
-Gonk

Update:
OK after many tests I can now pretty much confirm what SmokaUweedS said; AA has to be enabled in launcher for it to work.
On the other hand, AF seems to be better if you disable it from launcher and use CCC's filter instead.

These are my current settings: (again, after testing pretty much every different combination.)
AF: disabled in launcher and set to x16 in CCC.
AA: enabled in launcher (x4) with MSAA (performance) selected in CCC. SSAA does make a difference but has massive performance hit!
Catalyst AI: high quality + enable surface format optimization.

Now all I need is to find good settings for my shadows.

That mainly depends on your GPU and what it can handle in game.

I have a radeon 6850 and have msaa set to 2 and mlaa set to 16. msaa is smooths out the jagged lines you can see on the edges of objects. like your sword for instance if you see a jagged line along your sword then your msaa is what would smooth that line out.

also you should notice a setting for both to use application setting (i think thats what it says) that means that your game will over ride CCC's settings and your card will do what ever the game tells it. If you set it in CCC then CCC will over ride what ever your game setting is. There is no matching them, one will attempt to overide the other. I have in game set to 2 msaa but i have the mlaa disabled and have it set in CCC because most of the reports i've read say that CCC will do a better job than skyrim's engine at mlaa.

I uncheck the two boxes that say "use the application setting". Very useful if you want to get rid of a maximum amount of lag.

Agreed. Using the CCC settings over the game settings improves the game for me.

However, before the 1.5 patch, this wasn't the case. I never had to touch the CCC settings and Skyrim ran smoothly. Now, not so much...

...Again AA cannot be overridden by ccc. you can change the msaa and ssaa(ssaa looking way better but is very taxing) and the AF. but the game has to have AA on!

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate it! I'll play around with some of the settings now that I have a better idea of how to use them.

I had to do that the very first day I installed the game; it was unplayable otherwise.

No probs, just wanted to find, or in this case create, a guide that includes what works and what doesn't work that's also up to date.
Oh by the way, if I've said something completely wrong, please correct me 'cause I'd be very interested in knowing something like that!
