Auriel's Will Be Done

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:18 am

As an acolyte of the great Auriel I humbly offer my keen eye to thee. Auriel asked I the keeper of his relics and champion of his way to offer a new way for those who wish it. Under normal circumstances i cannot and will not consider such arrangement. I seemed to have found a loophole to be slightly more vocal though. It has occured to thineself that no divine has a place of devout worship. A place to commune with others and call upon special services, but the forces of daarkness and deceit can convene a court and even order others to carry out rather rewarding tasks. I think you can figure where I intend to go with this.

Let the champions of Auriel restore the temple and allow us to profit from serving his incandescent light! Additionally i desire a kinship with the rumored extinct race of the snow elves. A few other requests that any soul of Auriel may discuss are below.

Auriel's relics are vastly powerful, yet i wish the shields powers were more accessible. Its like 20 plus blocks per full charge and anything below the third stage is useless. Additionally i wouldve combined the runed dawnguard effect with auriels shield. Why does Auriel have a shield and no sword or mace?

You gave us snow elven armor (aka: ancient falmer. Aka: slightly altered elven painted white) which is very paladinesque. Why does it not have a headpiece? Why is it light armor?

While I too wish for Auriel to bestow upon us a head piece, I am glad he made his armor light. Auriel foresaw the coming of dragon bone weapons and the consequent obsolence of the heavy side of the smithing tree. All hail Auriel!

BTW, I am having a blast with Auriel's Bow. That svcker fries Deathlords!

Mer races tend to prefer Light Armor. Paladin doesn't necessarily mean Heavy Armor, either.

Lol. Very true. Although, you don't nessicarily need to go up the heavy armor side of the tree to get to Dragon.

Actually the word paladin comes from the knights of charlamagne which were known for a mix of plate and mail armor. Its not that i am disappointed in light paladin armor but the advocacy to play a paladin is virtually no different than playing its counter. Also light armor one handed archery based battlemages.

I think the set we got is light armour because Vyrthur unlike Gelebor is a mage and not a paladin at all.
Vyrthur's primary skills are listed as destruction, sneak, conjuration and light armour. That's not a paladin skill set. He's a sneaky mage.
Gelebor's primary skills however are listed as one handed, two handed, block and - heavy armour. His cuirass looks noticably different as well and lacks the shoulder plates. Perhaps this is one more thing that's only available via the console right now?

If this is true which it seems logical to think that i waant so much more for my requests to become true

Lorkhan tricked the Elven smiths into not forging a headpiece. He deceived them with a cunning ploy - he said "Look! Over there!" and whilst they were looking, he took their hammers and calipers.

This bothers me and I hope it's a bug that they fixed. There are a hand full of perks that are useless if you don't have the full set. Why even have this armor?

Anyone find it a bit strange that you can upgrade Auriel's Bow, but not the Ebony Blade? Both appear to be from the gods, and iirc, something about the bows forging is mentioned when you get it….

Forgive my ignorance in these matters - my first TES game, and I am not savvy on all the deep lore...

I would think it's because of the nature of the ebony blade. In order to increase it's strength, you have to kill those that trust you. They wouldn't let you upgrade it with smithing.

Yes - I used a "flaw" to get my ten kills, but that only buffs the life drain. The hp are not affected.

... My apologies - I don't want to see this get off topic....

I love it when people read Wikipedia and suddenly become experts on Medieval France. The word "paladin" is a lot older than Charlemagne. It was coined by outsiders viewing his Order and Army. There is no proof Charlemagne used the word "Paladin". The world Paladin comes from latin "Palatine", a name given to a high level court official in the rule of Constantine.

So, no. Paladins don't wear JUST heavy armor. In reality, they probably wore ROBES.

Charlemagne's paladins were indeed warriors. They are the group that the fantasy paladin is inspired by, and so Constantine's palatines (sp?) are irrelevant.

That said, there is nothing to suggest that they wore anything other than the mail armour that every other knight of the early medieval period would have worn. While that is heavy armour (except in the elder scrolls where it's light armour for some god-awful stupid reason) you have to remember that the fantasy paladin is only inspired, not defined, by the Carolingian paladin.
