Is Auto Detect Settings (too) modest?

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 6:12 pm

So when I hit auto detect, its not setting to max settings. I can manually adjust it, and its worked so far for the first game I DLed, but is this normal? I mean I have a 6950, that should max any game at 1080, but auto detect is being really modest. I'm sure I have everything hooked up right, and all of the drivers for my components installed, just wanted to know if this is normal.

Thanks, again mods can delete this as soon as I get an answer.

What game are we talking about here? And, yes, it is normal. Most games with "auto-detect" don't set the settings according to your computer since most can't, I suppose, check it and see how good your computer is and stuff like that (either that or they are too "modest"). Most games I have played do not have auto-detect. You don't really need it. It's not that hard to set your settings to max. 15 clicks at most.

SW Empire at War and the Total War games from Shogun II, down to Medieval II. I don't mind setting them manually, just wanted to make sure nothing was messed up with my GPU, PC, or anything like that.

No, your computer is perfectly fine (for what I know). Auto-detect on games are never really accurate (unless they run a few screen tests like Diablo 2 does (but of course that's for something else ) :o).
