Autosave

Autosave is saving on the most useless places and not saving when you want it to. I would like to know why there isn't a quicksave feature on consoles?

Umm, change the autosave settings? I only have it save on loading new cells (letting it save on time-scale or menu access is a PITA). And, whatever you do, don't rely only on Autosaves. Think of them as a backup, but rely on manual saves.

Well, it's called AUTOsave because it save AUTOmaticly within set intervals.
It's kind of difficult to create a system that sense when you want to save.

I can't say saving is a hassle for me (I'm on Xbox)

I've change the setup so that it autosaves as often as possible. I don't rely on autosave as it's not really useful to me.

That's why I was wondering why we don't have the quicksave function that PC have. I'm on PS3 and it's not hassle for me to save via the start function but still.

I didn't know you could change the auto save settings. I am on a PS3 and when I go to load a game it will have 4 auto saves I hate it. I have 10 charaters now and scrolling through now 14 different save sis tedious

Personally, disabling autosave is one of the first things I do with a game. Repeatedly saving over the same slot is a good way to wear down a particular spot on your harddrive, and even if you don't encounter technical problems or corruption relying on them is a good way to accidentally save yourself into a corner.

But why is there an autosave function instead of a quicksave function?

It's more about standardization than one or the other. I find you should either completely disable autosave, and rely entirely on manual saves, or rely completely on autosave and never save manually. Both have drawbacks, but trying to play both ways gets really frustrating.

I've not a developer so I can't really answer that, although I'd assume it's because all of the controller buttons are already in use.

I have auto save set to save on load screne, wait, and every 5 min. when I'm in menu cause I'm always checken my inventory but I also save like a SOB and rely on the manual saves.Auto saves are for when I forget to save mostly so I end up with 3 autos plus how ever many I save it's kinda a dummy proof set up I got goen for myself.

I'm not sure if it's something he could answer. However you could PM him and suggest a quicksave option on consoles and he'll take note of it. You'd probably have more luck if you also have a suggestion on how this could work - I don't play with a gamepad but if all of the buttons are being used they simply may not have room for this - and if you think you have a good workaround that would help.

Ok, thanks for the tip :) It's something I'm gonna do (in a constructive manner of course).

I was thinking more like this: You press SELECT (PS3 controls) and it saves automatically. Then press CIRCLE to get you out of the 'wait' menu and you're good to go. That would work. Right? :P

Obviously. That's not what this topic is about though.

Only if you made it an optional feature in the Options menu that you could toggle. Select is also the "wait" button and it gives you a quick read on what time it is. A lot of folks might complain if you forced a "save" on them every time they hit the select button.

Saving the game takes time that can drag down your system during gameplay and cause lag/delay. I turn off all autosaves for this very reason. No autosaves makes loading screens faster, waiting/sleeping faster and accessing the inventory/spell/skill/map screens faster.

Yep, which is why I have it set to only AS during loads or waits/sleeps ... figure I'm gonna be waiting then anyway, might as well wait a little longer for the insurance. The rest of the options, however, definitely disrupt gameplay.

Yeah, every once in a while I pay for the faster loading times when a snowy saber cat gets the jump on me and I remember a little too late that it has been a while since my last save.

Hah! Cats still bite even with my MO since I don't FT and don't make it a habit to manually save every 'x' steps. I definitely wind up better protected, so to speak, during dungeon crawls than in the outer wilds. But, that's okay. I don't mind the occassional punishment for forgetting that Skyrim is a dangerous land. If I had more guts, I'd do 'DiD'. :D
