Avatars.

Hello folks, just a quick fix untill Gstaff gets the avatars back. If you click Edit My Profile followed by Manage Facebook connect, this will allow you to have your FB profile picture as your avatar here.

Hope this helps.

Edit: This appears to only work on peoples profile pages, not in threads, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah Facebook linked profile pictures are available but all forum post avatars have been disabled. We will just have to be patient.

The hack occurred through code inserted in an animated .gif, didn't it?

I read something somewhere once that it was possible in some cases... dunno if this is the case, but that was my first thought when I saw all of this(*)

(*)the forums being hacked and disabled avatars thing, not this thread :hehe:

also, I realize no one will be able to verify this due to the on going security situation the admins have (said differently, it would be stupid to admit where the breach was and what the exploit was.)

Avatars? Christ, I had to re-register entirely (AGAIN, from the forum conversion) because my three-year old account probably used an outdated email or completely different "account name" that I couldn't even remember.

What, you mean Gstaff isn't going to send us on a quest to find the hackers hideout and find where they are keeping our avatars captive?

If he was it would just be one of those lame starting quests that don't have any reward other than storyline anyways, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Well Tommy Angelo won't be in captivity. He'll be saving Sam's injured ass... again!

He's also taking care of the ponies.

I've been away and only heard about the hack today. Was it those Anonymous blokes or was it Lulzsec?

I wouldn't consider Anonymous as an set group of people, they're just people who call them selves anonymous. Everyone can be anonymous. They are legion.

I was thinking it would be one of those bloody escort quests: I wouldn't fancy trying to escort all those wayward avatars back here unmolested.

I find it hard to be frightened by the mods without their avatars staring me down... especially the bear.

It's kind of fun because no one recognizes each other unless they stop to read the names and start to guess what avatar that person had before. :P

Ya i'm not sure that is possible though I don't find it impossible since there could "plausibly" be a way to insert some malicious code however i'm skeptical. Worst thing i've heard of is a particularly nasty BIOS virus that totally screws over your computer.
