An awesome idea for the workbench

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:33 pm

On the work bench in your house there should be a toolbox for storage of all your parts that can be used to construct weapons, items, etc. Instead of having to have all the parts on you to construct the item, they could all be in your toolbox as well.

Excellent idea, I hated to bring home weapons and put them in a locker then go through all of them to find which one's I needed to create what I wanted.

So like a special box on your workbench for item creation components? Sounds like a decent idea. I'm just happy that people are still coming up with things to talk about since we've been scraping the barrel after QuakeCon and Gamescom info started to dry up.

That would be great but I would also like to see some sort of ammo creation kit attached to the work bench. A kit that could create or reload standard ammo such as shotgun shells.

I've seen this a few times from you. Frustration? Anticipation? Both?

Would love that, makes organization easier. Also we need ammo/grenade boxes for our houses just to keep things tidy.

I believe its been said there are separate workbenches for ammo so a ammo creation kit wouldn't make much sense since it has its own workbench.

That would be great! Kind of like cooking in the GBA Harvest Moon Game - instead of taking out the ingredients you want, you have access through the cooking menu to the fridge. Applying this to the workbenchs would be so handy!

In all reality what's the difference if you select the item from your inventory or a toolbox/fridge? Your still just opening up a menu and selecting the item.

Well, with the crafting system you could just pick the item/weapon you want to make and it will check first your inventory then the toolbox for the item, instead of you having to rummage through your containers for the part you saved, taking it out, then using it with the workbench.

Its not a huge timesaver, but it would be convienent.

A little thing called being organized.

Thats not what I am saying. I am saying having it not be a requirment to have the part on your person. Like, if you want to build a rock it launcher and have a vaccum cleaner and a leaf blower on your person and have a firehose nozzle and a conductor in the tool box, you would be able to just go right up to the work bench and select build rock it launcher.

I hope Obsidian reads this in time. It's probably too late now though. Good idea nonetheless.

When this forum starts to slow down, it's as if time stands still. I've got a bit of an OCD thing going on, and Fallout has become an integral part of my life now. Every couple spare minutes I have goes to this forum since my energy and social life has pretty much been killed by football. Every single good idea like this one, plus some bad ones that need to be told that they are so, gets a post. When there's nothing left to talk about, I've got not much else to do. Reading Paradise Lost right now, but that can't compare to something this great.

Sounds easy to do... Just set a toolbox on the workbench in the GECK.

Along with that toolbox connected to the Workbench it'd be cool if it could draw the components for the things you want to create straight from the toolbox so you wouldn't have to go and take everything you need out just to make something. :tops:

you do realise that unless they already did that its probably a non starter to ask them to make any changes in game

that and I kind of doubt that the game enegin would let you have an object that was flaged as being both a storage box and a toolbox at the same time without a re-write of the base object code.

It would be a good idea. At the very least I hope they have a locker right next to most workbenches.
