Awesome Idea

First, I LOVE Skyrim, nice work guys. I really like that the game is played solo but there is an online component that I think would really enhance the user experience without becoming an online game exactly. It would be cool if when you entered pubs you saw and could interact with other people playing the game who are in the same pub at the same time. People could ask questions, spread rumors, troll each other, etc. You could even add multiplayer mini games such as darts, drinking contests, etc. You could add a jukebox which costs your own money to make a request, or pay the bard to play more of a variety of songs. Of course, the guards will still arrest you if you're caught committing crimes etc. Really, the possibilities are endless!

When you leave the pub you're back in the solo game though.

Meh. I've always liked that Elder Scrolls remained a purely single-player game. Once you add multiplayer, the immersion is gone because you have some yokel talking about how much he hates Justin Bieber.

I will pass on social hubs in a pub, all thay would be is a glorified chat room. I will also pass on multiplayer.

I want this franchise to stick to single player. The focus needs to be the world and its lore and put resources into that instead of a multiplayer component.

to quote a great dude: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0hfg1htnM4
even the most hardcoe purists cant disagree you play the game like you want to, so if i want to coop it with one or two buddies, id like to be able to load a mod to do so (and no i don't mean the crap mmo today is)

What I like about this game and other titles like it, is that they are single player. Don't really like multiplayer games (mainly because I don't know other people who play games and I don't have the internet at home!). There are heaps of multiplayer games out there though.

(edit: and saying that, I kinda like coming to these forums to see what others are doing - takes me out of playing Skyrim).

And to add to that, what do you do when the internet is out? You can't play the game, which is another reason why I never liked them.

I think TES would be great if they had a free roam multiplayer component to it, but only something like that. I dont think main quests and other questlines should have co-op as it could confuse lore but I do admit I would love to play Skyrim with a mate beside me in game.

A direct IP connection to a friend, like in the old school days of playing AoE and HOMM over the internet with a friend or two, would be cool, but I'd hate for multiplayer to be a public forum like most games are today.

While the aspect of multiplayer kept me in World of Borecraft for 7 years, the aspect of multiplayer is also the reason I left the game.

People have a tendancy of venting their frustrations in any way they can and since the computer allows them anonymity they can get away with belittling anyone they choose. I will admit, however, that it would be an interesting idea to be able to voice-chat with other people, but that just brings on the irritation of hearing them talk about their real-life issues.

So, I'm glad it's not multiplayer because most times I can't stand other people, but would like to be able to have the option either way.

TES I've always personally thought should be a first person offline game. Just my 2 cents. :)

Pissed pants in hysterical agreement, I would boycott pubs if that happened lol
Reason? people online... often depress me... too much negative and not enough 'engage brain then open mouth' either because some can't be bothered or there is no brain to engage with.

TES can only work as a single-player only game. Any kind or multiplayer will kill the game.

If they ever did this it really would be the death of the series. If you want to chat with real people, use XBL/PSN/whatever the PC equivalent is/telephone.

In theory it could be a good idea but on multiplayer half the people want to screw around and troll to ruin other people's gaming experience.

my girlfriend watching me play and yelling at me not to get the "horsey" killed is enough multiplayer action for me in Skyrim. (this is one game she actually likes watching me play for once :) )

Seriously though, like others have said, there are plenty of MMO games out there to choose from. Lets keep this great series single player and let other RPGs charge a monthly fee for playing a not so great game.

Exactly this. For some odd reason, people watching you play tend to get as much enjoyment as you playing. Nearly every other game out there - not interesting to an observer. But this - different. And the horsey thing - yep, totally!

In an odd way, this game is multiplayer, but the multiplayer is in a world of it's own. From these forums to communicate how we are all doing different things, to people watching you play. Like doing the puzzles - makes it quite interesting when there is more than one person playing. There are certain cool moments in the game when it's actually pretty fun playing the game, but with someone watching what you're doing. They don't really want to play the game themselves, but like watching you play.

In my mind, this game is a bit like an animated movie, or choose your own adventure book - that doesn't end.

The lobby, or ingame pub - I reckon that's what the forums are for. Plus imagine going into an ingame pub and then typing away to communicate - that would totally take me out of the game, not make it more immersive. I'm on a PC with 360 controller and the last thing I want to do is use the keyboard to start typing messages.

In before lock. And moving to the permanent multiplayer thread.

Personally, I don't think it will work. This genre - TES - is a perfect single-player game. You would have to redo the entire engine, code, etc., and it would be more like any other MMO.

I think that's a pretty cool idea, though I'm not sure it would work in the game-setting. If you could trade loot, that would be really cool. For example, maybe a really low level character has a lot of gold, but can now get an over-powered item by bribing a high-leveled adventurer.

For that to be an effective maneuver though, leveling should be done away with 100%
