Awkward Character Creation

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:04 pm

I created a female bosmer yesterday, took me around 30 - 45 minutes to get it right. Then I restarted 10 minutes later after deciding the hair wasn't right. I remembered all the choices I made and redid it in like 5 or 6 minutes with different hair. If I don't get one thing right about the appearance of my character it'll bother me the whole game. It's actually kind of unfortunate, haha.

What other game gives you so many features to change your character's appearance (including the mods that are out there now)???
Sims 2. In Sims 2 I can make characters that look like almost anyone. In Skyrim, i can only make them if they already look like Skyrim charcters.

In Sims 2, for example, I can make most of my relatives well enough that I can recognize them. In Skyrim, I can maybe make a few, very few, of my male relatives, fewer of my female. Most of the mods out there seem to concentrate on making movie star looks.

I've gotten to where I can make an early twenties female Breton ... but a young male, forget about it

I have a pretty young-looking Breton male.

You know, I've really never spent all that much time on my characters. There really isn't a whole lot you can do with them. I generally know what race and gender I want going in. Then it's just picking the right preset and adjusting. I spend maybe 10 or 15 minutes, tops. In many ways, it's a lot more limited than it was in Oblivion. I could spend 70 minutes making adjustments in that game.

I was going to say something along these lines. I know I made less characters for Oblivion (just two) but there was a lot more options. Personally, though, I don't mind the character creation in Skyrim. Sure it would be nice to have more options, but I wouldn't go so far as to complain about what we do have. I've seen worse character creations in games; Fallot 3 and NV, for example, though they're still far from the worst.

and all of those you can make a young looking pc, I'm 24 ... I'd rather my character not look 45

I don't get why people always want to put themselves in a game. Though I think age sliders would add more to character creation.

I have to say, I like these shots.

I love the character creation in skyrim :) well you cant make them look that ugly like in oblivion (big nose, big head, looking like a fish etc..)
The characters look better in skyrim. And i can finally have a beard in this game! hated the so called "beards" in oblivion. And i take time with the character creation,And then if i dont like it i just start over,But i am happy how my characters looks now

Right off the bat I made each race as cool looking as I could... I spent 3 hours in character creation before I started playing the game. :P

I'm getting better at it. 5 to 10 minutes tops for a character now. Well, except a Mer or a male. The Mer's facial features just make them all so ugly so I have to tweak a lot and the males all look like they are 40+ years old. I just image the PC as someone new to adventuring, not someone who's been around for a while.

I think that's really the biggest issue, they all look so old and worn out

I think a happy medium between Oblivion's and Skyrim's character creation would have been good.

I was gonna say. I once create a Breton male that looked to be around 30 and kind of rugged. But then he ended up being baby faced and looking like he was about 20 at the oldest.

I feel like everything I make ends up looking roughly the same. I think I just prefer a wide variety of unique head/hair models to choose from a la Morrowind and earlier Bioware titles.

It takes ages to do character creation. And oyu can't always tell if they're how you want till too late sometimes.

Mainly because it bugs out. Eyes stick or go wierd nearly every time. Sometimes it's just the same barely loaded and stuck eye colour because it won't load the others.
I made a female bosmer and a male nord, and the eyes stuck halfway between one good eye and both.
It was gruesome.
My male nord ended up with one barely loaded blue/brown/grey eye and one blurry brown eye.

Once you do them, it does'nt always work.

You see them in game. And they're wrong.

My male dunmer looked like a sumo wrestler. My female dunmer looked wrong.

It is'nt a good character creater compared to some.
