Baby named Dovahkiin

From the article
"I wanted him to have a unique name," writes mother Megan Kellermeyer, who adds that she's not a gamer. "I am so picky about boy names that I was having a lot of trouble finding just the right one. We've toyed with Dovahkiin and the ramifications of naming a child that name, and that name being based on a video game character (however awesome), and what impact that would have on him. But the more I thought of it, the more I settled on Dovahkiin, contest or no."

Well it puts us to shame, well I wonder if he will get free games.

If I had known about this competition I would of been willing to impregnate Rosie O'Donnell.

Bethesda are the true Greybeards, this game and competition was just a sham way of anouncing a true prophecy to the world. We must pledge our alliegiance to the true Dragonborn.

In a blog post, the parents acknowledge the name could cause their son some issues, but say it's one they truly love and likely would have chosen even if Bethesda hadn't launched the contest.

Proof that these people deserve to be castrated. With rusty knives, and no anesthesia.

I would rather take the lifelong vow of moderatorship rather than name my child 'dovahkiin'. Mainly because I probobly won't have to worry about my child being mocked for the rest of his life for being named dragonborn. Also, I would take pride in devouring the souls of the damned to banhood forever, AND I would get the Team's signatures on all of my free games. And the Collector's edition. And the hate mail calling me 'nazi comie [censored]'

Indeed, and this child shall lead us with baby screams to rival any dragon shout.

It'll be Steam codes, most likely. They had codes for a Bethesda pack that would also include new games as they came out, IIRC that's what they were planning to give him. That's not being updated with the new releases any more though, so...

I would laugh if they played on Xbox.

This is not a thought I wanted in my head. I hate you so much. :shocking:

@Texnshasta- You gotta admit, being named after a celebrity doesnt compare with a guy who's name is literally meaning 'dragonborn' >_>

They'd better register him for school and the like as "Tom," too. Otherwise hilarity will ensue on the first day of school, every year. "Is there a Dov...Dova... ...how do you pronounce your name?" (Cool story, sis: I went to school with a kid who'd immigrated from Africa. His first name was fine and easy to pronounce, but his last name gave teachers near epileptic fits at the start of every school year. Even though it wasn't really that difficult to say--I'd say it's got nothing on "Dovakhiin" to the average person. (At least that's what us kids always thought. Then again, we'd known him since elementary school, so we'd had years to practice.))

Sigh. Fans or not, some people should really let the pain meds wear off before they name their kids. That name's going to cause him nothing but trouble while he's growing up.

Names are names.
But made up, misspelled, found in some medical journal, numerical, nature-oriented, etc = epic fail at uniqueness.
Some think their name makes them unique when, in fact, the simple act of existing satisfies the requirement quite nicely.

What follows is not a joke:
1979, New Orleans, Louisiana usa.
A friend asked if I'd escort her classmate to a dance. My at-the-time girlfriend had no hangups, so I agreed.
2 weeks later, standing under a cardboard riverboat cut out, I had a prom picture taken with...wait for it...

...Sa' Phyllis

The made up prefix extolled the fact her parents were either:
1. Cruel beyond the pale
2. Drugged to the bejeezus reading med journals in the early Sixties.

20 years in the future...
"Hey, I'm supposed to have received the latest Elder Scrolls game from you guys, but haven't yet. I figured you might have forgot."
"Uh, what do you mean sir? You purchased the game and haven't received it yet?"
"No, I'm supposed to have it free of charge. My family won a contest when I was born."
"What's your name, sir?"
"Dovakiin. Dovakiin Tom Kellermeyer."

That's awful. I'd change my name to Ken, or just say that's my name if I was in his situation for a few years.

I guess, but only if the people you talk to get the reference and are nerds. I think he'll just be called Tom, anyways.
