bad singers in skyrim...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:19 pm

hi everybody,

right so i love bards, they are a great and realistic item that beth added to skyrim, it completes that nordic pubby feel and they have made some really great songs.

but honestly, some of these bards are just...im sorry but the only word is this : crap

not all of them, like osme of them (both sixes) sound really good, and i love listning to them.

now the bard in talking to in question is the one in dawnstar inn, when i went in there for a quiet drink whilst i was on the run, when she suddenyl burst out with "ragnar the red" fairly screaming it in my ear i was like 0_0 , and at the end when she yells the last bit out, i laughed so hard i was doubled over, but the look on my chracters face! :D

honestly though, to top it all, the man at the bar later said osmehting like "my daughter has her mothers voice, shes sings like an angel" and i couldnt help but think "yeah im not suprised that your with is dead in unexsplained circumstances if she sang like that ! "

anyway, several drinks later, 3 rounds at "rangnar the red" and "the age of aggresion" with my new drinking buddies those two miner girls and osme old crone, all of us dancing to the beat, i forget im on the run and bam! 3 guars exsplode in, hehe, lol i only just got away.

anyway, ive heard a few bards and i find the male ones tend to sound better than the females, though the dark elf one in windhelm isint bad at all.

anybody else found some bards that dont quite cut it?

LOLOL I love your posts! hahahahaha After a few drinks, you are dancing to the beat and you forget you are on the run! LOL

Well, the Orc bard in some obscure Inn definitely didn't cut it, since he had multiple contracts out on him hahahahaha I never heard him sing though, I just killed him. hehe

I like to listen to the bard in the Winking Skeever, she has a great voice.

The Wandering Bard sounds awful! LOL I just pay him for a request and then take off hahahahaha

Yeah, I guess most of them were primarily just hired for the voice acting/dialogue.

I don't think Ive heard that Orc. He just stands around and beats on a drum. It's funny that he's so skinny too.

There is a travelling bard in solitude's inn(not lisette) who is a male. He sings really well and i remembered that the song he sang was a slower type of song.

Actually, from what I can tell, Corri English (who voices Camila, Elisif, Ysolda, etc) records and sings besides acting. I've heard her playing one bard (forget which one), but she kind of hams it up. She's still got a good voice, but her rendition of dragonborn comes is a kind of bombastic.

No, he sings. You have to ask him to, and then he makes up something on the the spot, full of "uhs" and grasping for rhymes (and just missing them). Those contracts were well deserved.

I think my biggest problem with the bards isn't so much their voices, it's that big gap they all have between lines. It's like they're trying desperately to remember the words; and it just ruins the flow of the music.

ow i dont know, i think they sing the songs pretty convincenly actually, i love ragnar the red, someitmes i even sing along with them!

how many songs are ther at the moment? i have found four so far

age of agression
age of oppresion
ragnar the red
the dragonborn comes

now about "the dragonborn comes" is it just me or does it sopund REALLY AWKWARD with all the breaks the bard singers have, im sorry but it just makes me cringe a bit because they make it sound VERY awkward (im not getting into sticky vicky deatails)

also with "the age of opression" , the dark elf singer in candleheath hall isint a bad singer, but there a bit i nthe song somethign like "take back our home" where she gets it all wrong and it kinda breaks the song, but that is my fave song so far, i like the bit where it goes "all hale to ulfric! you are the high king! in your great name we will drink and we will sing"

then theres finally "the age of agression" , very similar to "the age of opression" i think sven sings it like an angel, the males sing it better than many of the females.

still, i am a big fan of the stormcloak movement, it got a lot of faults but HELL so has the empire, so i find it hard to drink in all the wordsi n "the age of agression" it just feels wrong when a nord sings about how great the empire is and how ulfric is a damn traitor.

now lets not get into a "imperial vs stormcloak" debate, its the most talkd about topic in history, i understand that ulfric is a bit of a racist and can be very patronizing and annoying, but i reckon hes going the right away about things, i love kicking imperial and thalmore butt alike, the damn traitors.

final thing, much as i hate the thalmore, the empire is a lot worser than them, the empire is a big traitor to its own people, if stormcloak haters listned to some of the stuff galmar says , then they will see that hes got a big point.

the thalmore are better than the empire because there not grovelling at somebodys shoes and there not afraid to speak there mind, therfore i have to admire them for there courage and power.

NOTE: though if at the end of the storcloak line ulfric wont marry me via console then i will have to kill him- i AM going to be the high queen of skyrim, the wolf queen round 2 bring it on empire!

Bad bards add realism to the concept of bards. You really think you're gonna find a top notch talent in some dumpy backwoods bar? No way! The big cities tend to have the talented singers, it makes a lot of sense.

Talsgar is the worst. I regret paying him to hear him obliterate a song.

Does anyone know who wrote the songs? Honestly, the bards don't all have the greatest voices, but look what they've got to work with. These are not exactly catchy tunes with award-winning lyrics.

Not catchy tunes? Then I guess you haven't heard me humming Ragnar the Red and The Age of Agression every day after I play Skyrim

When I'm at a bar/inn I can usually ignore whatever the bard is doing. In fact, they're sometimes pretty good. However, some of them are just awful, and I've had to get up numerous times and get them to be quiet.

The Dawnstar one started screaming Ragnar The Red for me too.

It was bad.

The Solitude one in the Winking Skeever can be screamy too.

I don't think the orc sings, I tried paying him.
He just bangs his drum and says hello.

To be fair, some of the songs are just, bleh.

Ragnar The Red is ok. The Age Of Agression is ok.

But The Dragonborn Comes is lame. And very cringeworthy. So cheesey.

I realised that the epic theme music might be TDC in dragon or nord, lol. But if it is, it does'nt sound lame there.

The varying bards adds to the feel I think.

yes the dawnstar one is the worst in the game, but it made up for it when her father says "shes got her mothers voice that one"

you know i wouldnt put it past beth to delibritly make the bard rubbish and then put in those mother comments....but they were not aloud to say it in case of offence.....

I like Talsgar though because he usually has a body of corpses near him. He should be a follower.

I dunno, the songs can be pretty good if http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z9TdDCWN7g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNDT7EInclo. I think part of the problem is because of the breaks imposed by Skyrim's dialog system, which really interrupts the flow of the song. That, and, most of Skyrim's voice actors can barely voice act, let alone sing.
