After searching high and low then high again I finally have it, Baldur gate II is back in my possession. My last copy was destroyed and I could never see to find a copy online save for amazon, who I dont use after two really bad experiences with their delivery and customer service. But thats not the point.

I have litterally been looking for a hard copy of this game every time I have been into a game shop since I was 16, thats five years. The one time I cam close was "The ultimate collection" which contained both BG1 and BG2, Never witer nights 1/2, Icewindale 1/2 and all applicable expansions. But they wouldn't sell it to me, why? Because Icewindale 2 was missin. "I Don't care, Icewindale 2 wasn't my favourite and I already have a copy of it at home, i'll still pay full price regardless" but they said no, I insisted, still no. Idiots.

But I saw it today in a local wargame shop that sells mainly figurine/card games like war hammer but also a few old PC games. I could barely contain my excitement.

So I've just started my first play though and thought I'd start an appreciation thread, where I might also ask of BGSF a question.

Has anybody ever successfully got BGII's Multiplayer system working? I have never been able to and it's a shame, I've ached to play as a party since I first tarted playing D&D in school, but only one of my friends played this and he had no internet access back then. But who knows, maybe now I can try it out at last. So have any of you ever been able to get online in a party? And whats it like?

My big-box Baldur's Gate 2 is one of my most prized possessions. I love BG2, it's one of the best RPGs ever created.

BGII was, and pretty much still is, the bomb. I have the played the crap outta that game. Was actually gonna start another playthrough soon, with all custom characters, and do a kinda LP of it.

As for online? No, I've never got it to work. The games too old for that I think.

I have BGII but haven't played it for more than a few minutes.

I wanted to finish BG I before I played #2 but I just cannot finish the first game I lose interest a couple of hours in then never go back. I'm not sure why, I enjoy the genre.

How is BG II better than the first game?

Baldur's Gate 2 starts your characters off at about the same levels as you would have finishing BG1. It has a gazillion more spells and other new features, making it a far more complicated and challenging game.

I've had the game for three days now and I haven't got past the first Dungeon, i just keep going "OH WAIT I WANT TO BE A MAGE!!", then half way through I'm all like "BUT I WANT TO BE A THIEF!!"

It's too awesome for me to be able to pick just one build :')

yeah, It's more like a continuation rather than a sequal. You can even use the exact character you used in BG1.

BG2 also has more conversations between you and your party members, and between party members, which adds a lot to the experience.

I've played through BG 1 and BG 2 this summer, both great games. Quite long too.

Yeah the two games together are very long. Which is awesome because you play the same character in both, so you can really see yourself start as a rookie and slowly get more powerful. Being a Sorceror in Throne of Bhaal is pretty insane.

BG 2 requires long dedicated readings. For multiplay go for Icewind Dale series, none stop hack and slash.

I didn't like Icewind Dale as much becausse of the lack of interaction, but I did enjoy the combat side of it more.
