Bandits and such like

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 6:23 am

I tell you what would add more realism to this game and they have almost got it right with folks warning you if you get to close to their camps.

Not EVERYTHING classed as a baddie should be scripted to attack.

You should come across bandit gangs who are simply not interested in you.

Bears and trolls that warily skirt around you.

Black mages who run away when you approach their camp.

Sabre tooths who will sniff you, growl and then flee.

When fighting in a Forsworn camp, you could have the odd one run away from the battle.

Stuff like that really.

A Hagraven who is too busy making a briar-heart to attack you, its only when you try to swipe her soulgem that she gets ratty and lets you have a fireball to the swede.

And once, just once I'd like to actually witness an adventurer take an arrow to the knee!

It feels like you know whats going to happen at any given moment and adding these dimensions to the game would add yet more colour to this amazing world.

The end.

Meh I kind of find it annoying that I have to quicksave and Sneak attack and kill something just to see if it was a hostile character or a friendly. I will kill something "Oops that wasn't a Bandit" - reload. At least Forsworn look a little different.

But....you are the Dragonborn...all who oppose you must be destroyed...

Also, I like to use the 'wait' option if I'm not sure whether a person is friend or foe. The game won't let you wait if there are enemies nearby.

Bandits tell me ''that's close enough'' if I come to near to their territory and if I continue, they attack me.

Yeah! See my topic on getting outlawed in Riften. This happens all the time. My point is not that baddies should be harder to tell, they would need to make factions stand out more.

At the mo practically anyone in Skyrim can wear fur armor. That is another level of detail the game needs.

Yeah I know, see my original post.

I'm saying that if you approach they should sometimes run off, or that when you approach a band of them out on the turndra they don't attack as mandatory.

Thats what defines a baddie?

You should come across bandit gangs who are simply not interested in you.
Would not be much of a bandit gang? I mean you are carrying ALOT of good stuff and probably more gold then most citizens. Ive actually been robbed by a bandit gangs via conversations and they let me go if i pay an ammount..

Bears and trolls that warily skirt around you.
Why would a mighty troll not attack you? They probably have predator instincts not from this world. And Bears? Yes they do attack, get to close to a cub or their lair..

Black mages who run away when you approach their camp.
Would you not defend where you live?

Sabre tooths who will sniff you, growl and then flee.
Maybe they want to eat you? Your fresh meat must smell so darn good! Again, predator instinct. You are their prey.

When fighting in a Forsworn camp, you could have the odd one run away from the battle.
Am not sure what you mean? But ive been in countless situations where the forsworn retreats to heal up. (Again am not sure what your point is.)

Stuff like that really.

A Hagraven who is too busy making a briar-heart to attack you, its only when you try to swipe her soulgem that she gets ratty and lets you have a fireball to the swede.
DO NOT! Interfere with their experiment!

And once, just once I'd like to actually witness an adventurer take an arrow to the knee!
I've taken several arrows in the knee!

It feels like you know whats going to happen at any given moment and adding these dimensions to the game would add yet more colour to this amazing world.

Lone bandits will occasionally flee, especially if you just killed their buddies. (I usually kill them anyway though, to avoid lag buildup)

Not so! Baddies could be nefarious in nature!

You should come across bandit gangs who are simply not interested in you.

Yeah but they could have only just attacked some goodies a moment ago. (Fatal floor in this is the fact that YOU are the only goodie not in a town or hamlet)

Bears and trolls that warily skirt around you.
Why would a mighty troll not attack you? They probably have predator instincts not from this world. And Bears? Yes they do attack, get to close to a cub or their lair..
They could be feeling poorly that day. (Trolls and bears are people too!)

Black mages who run away when you approach their camp.
Would you not defend where you live?
Not if I had the flu or the guy that approached was wearing Daedric armor and I'd had a nasty experience in Oblivion!

Sabre tooths who will sniff you, growl and then flee.
Maybe they want to eat you? Your fresh meat must smell so darn good! Again, predator instinct. You are their prey.
Maybe they just ate!

When fighting in a Forsworn camp, you could have the odd one run away from the battle.

The point being that one of the lesser ranked Forsworn is scared of you, his mum warned him not to join up and dammit she was right!

Stuff like that really.

A Hagraven who is too busy making a briar-heart to attack you, its only when you try to swipe her soulgem that she gets ratty and lets you have a fireball to the swede.
DO NOT! Interfere with their experiment!
Exactly, they hate it!

And once, just once I'd like to actually witness an adventurer take an arrow to the knee!
I've taken several arrows in the knee!
Pics or it didn't happen!

Speaking of arrow in the knee.. I came across some crazy wood elf who shot me in the eye with an arrow.. 30 seconds later a guard said "I took an arrow in the knee" thing.. I just wished i had a conversation option saying "The knee?! Look at me?! I have a steel arrow in my eye !!"

Yesterday I came cross a Bandit camp and they demanded me to pay toll to pass through. I thought it was quite funny. I do agree with OP, it would be too awesome to have a sabertooth come walking up to you and then sniff you: 'oh noes the dragonborn, RUN!'

This is my point! It wouldn't happen.

Bandit1: "Heck, who's this dude with full Deadric armor and a soul stealing dwavern flawless battle axe and side kick with Eboney legendary armor and maxed out Destruction power?"

Bandit2: "I don;t know but lets not hang about to find out! RUUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!"

Glad to see I'm not the only one that does that.

It is definately better than OB and most other games, but it would be kinda hard to pull off.

What I was hoping for is some recognition or something for who you are. At levels 1 through 5 and can justify every bandit just trying to kill me. They are bandits and I look like easy pickings. But if I am 40th level I should have some kind of reputation by then. Add to that I'm walking around in high level armor and most if not all bandit should want to leave me alone, or run when they see me coming. THAT's what i would love to see in this game.

ps - it was the worse in MW when the ashlanders would attack my Daedric clad warrior with chitin arrows and daggers. I mean seriously?

A bit of interaction would be cool, you could even join their camps?
