Barbarian Build Gimp?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:29 pm

So I have a level 15 barbarian (2h, light armor) and I'm having a real hard time killing dragons. Their breath widdles my health down in about 3-4 hits so unless I have 20+ potions my best bet for taking one down is to exploit it and/or use a bow. Any tips for a barbarian built would be great.

Not to mention the harder-than-bosses mini bosses... I have to run for my life if I see one of those guys.

Why do my posts always get bumped off the first page faster than a backwards flying dragon?

Smithing and create/upgrade the most powerful 2 handed weapon you can get. Preferably the Skyforge greatsword/axe since that will carry you all the way to the ebony tier. Use healing spells while the dragons are airborne, use cover and pop out with a cocked arrow when they're hovering (right before they use their breath weapon).

The approach is really no different than 2 handed plate to be honest. You'll just take more damage early on from melee until you get to end game armor.

The patch broke resistances, but I'd be collecting some magic/fire/frost resistance gear once 1.03 comes.

One of the standing stones gives +25% magic resistance, and there's a quest in Riften that gives you another +15%, permanent.

Bump the difficulty down? Or you can use better weapons.

I have the same problem with my stealth character at first. I used to be detected and had to fight in front of a dragon and one breath would kill me. I had to exploit by hiding behind an object to shield me from the breath as I'd be killed instantly. And because you are melee it's 5 times hard because you have to get into the face of the dragon to attack it. I'm also making a Barbarian with 2H and Light Armor and I play on Master Difficulty so I have no idea how I'm going to survive. Maybe I have to level up until I have a tonne of HP just to live.

Every time I post a topic it's not ever on the 1st page in a second. I have to bump it just to get it onto the page for it to disappear again.

I ran into a problem with smithing on one of my other characters. I leveled smithing so high that all my other skills paled in comparison and my character'ss level was twice what is should have been; this gimped my character with the level scaling system.

Selfcontrol in levelling smithing dude. ;)

Otherwise maybe some Alchemy for Resist Fire/Frost potions? (Makes more sense RP-wise than Enchanting for a barbarian I'd say)

That's why you don't power level smithing. I never level it higher than my primary skills.

My very first character was a barbarian build like yours. Dragons are hard, but not impossible, I was taking down blood and frost dragons on expert, so the build is possible. You'll have to use the terrain to your advantage, mainly to avoid their breath attacks. But once it hits the ground, I would run in a use a combination of normal attacks and staggering power attacks usually taking big chunks off their health. Sometimes I would also have to circle the dragon while getting in some cheap shots.

Don't attack the dragon head on, instead, go to the side/back and hack away.
