I've read a few things on the net here and there about this bug happening occasionally. Well, just my luck that I'm one of the few I guess.

I go through the entire quest, assault Windhelm, make it to the Ulfric, and execute him. I hear the talk about bringing the new Jarl into Windhelm etc... go outside and listen to the full speech and then when it's all over, I fast travel out to Riften, then fast travel back to Windhelm ONLY to find that hall is filled with Stormcloak sympathic Jarls and their minions! They look at me and tell me to get out of town (being Imperial and all) when in reality, I won the war (didn't I?). What's worse is that they are terrible at housecleaning and have left Ulfric and his bodyguard's body lying on the floor.

I am a completionist by nature... so this is gamebreaking for me. I cannot buy the house in Windhelm nor become the Thane. I'm really hoping that there is something t be said about this bug? I can and will probably load my save game before the assault on Windhelm and then just ignore it for the time being, but is there a timetable at all on the fix? I'd be more than willing to send my save file in if it would help.

Some of my statuses in the game:
I've completed the Thieves guild quests
I've become a member of the Nightengales
I've completed the Companion's quests and have saved the old dead leader (but am myself still a member of the circle currently)
i've completed the Mage quests and have become the high magus
I've completed the Brotherhood quests and become their new leader
I'm the Thane of Whiterun, Riften, Winterhold, and Sollitude

I've also completed the quest that takes place in what should be my home in Windhelm completely.

I have reloaded my save going in to kill Ulfric and I've chosen all three options - (i've had enough bloodshed, I won't give him the satisfaction, I'll do it) - none of which made any difference (note that in none of the occasions where I killed him myself did the Legion soldier give me his sword like he said he would).

I have also tried to run out of Windhelm instead of fast travelling... and what is interesting is that when I try to reenter Windhelm via the gate I just exited, I receive the error message "you must defend the city before re-entering" (or something similar) as the door opens and lets me back in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Saw there was a small update this morning, so loaded up my "final assault" save... this time he does give me his weapon, but the overall results are the same. I noticed that I still had a quest in my Misc log to return to the Jarl of Whiterun... so i loaded further back to where that quest did not exist, and that was before taking the Axe to Ulfric. I carried through from that point on, and it looks like something goes awry there.

In any case, I've loaded back to BEFORE i made the choice to join the legion... I'll avoid the storyline for now until it's been fixed. Would love to hear if this is being addressed in a future patch though

I also wanted to note that I had the game lock up and "stop working" several times this morning while fighting through Windhelm... that's never happened before in 130+ hours of playing...
