Battlefield 3 for PS3

I don't use steam much.

Are you mad?! You can get games on Steam released this year for under twenty dollars, sometimes under fifteen. It's nothing short of confounding how Valve manages to stay in business, but that's likely because every PC gamer knows that Steam is a must-have, though there are bound to be some folks who will choose to own all of their games physically instead of electronically, and more power to them.

In response to your last question, NHsports123, I don't know what they plan to do about the map situation. I'd imagine they just compressed the existing ones to suit 24 players while still keeping the overall design of the maps the same.

Even I have steam on my [censored] PC.

What I can't wait to see is what DICE is gonna do with the extra parts of the map they cut out to for the console versions. Are they gonna use the extra parts as new maps for the consoles? Are they gonna just scrap them?

Well, apparently, their messing around with a good portion of the PC version of BF3 on the console ports. Because the maps contain less players, Jets have been vastly improved to take out smaller amounts of players, etc.

I don't believe their actually scrapping any content. Their just re-working it.

And I do agree with you. I'd buy it on the PC as well, if mine didn't svck complete ass. So PS3 it is.

Yeah, but recently I've been thinking about upgrading my desktop. I was gonna get a gaming laptop, but my friend told me that I can get a better desktop for less money. At first I told him I just wanted to add on stuff to my PC to make it better but he said it was so crappy that it made Casey Anthony look like a saint, and he said it'd be cheaper to just buy a new one.

You have a very good friend there. Gaming laptops are extremely overpriced and don't give much bang for buck.

 But yes, if your PC is so outdated that your mobo would reject something as simple as a dual core processor, it's time to just replace it all. There's a fantastic community tech thread here in CD where you can get some recommendations based on your price range. Check it out if you wish. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1207079-the-community-tech-thread-no-102/.

Yes, my friend is a complete nerd, but I love him anyway :P

How much do I have to spend to get a good gaming desktop?

It's all good. Just hit one of my buttons with that whole "one of the consoles ruined online play for the other" thing. I aim to help, especially for somebody wishing to get the most out of their gaming. You shouldn't have to settle for less in this industry; never forget that.

Not BS, actually. A game on the PC platform called Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising could handle upwards of 250 players a server, and I witnessed it first-hand. As an added bonus, I never had a latency above 60ms. The same could be done on either of the consoles should the company know what its doing. EA apparently does not.

Popped in to say that Jointer Operations was a fantastic game. Those island assaults were incredible. Also the dirt bikes were amazing in the expansion, as well as shooting javelins off of the edge of little birds.

It depends what you want out of it. You can easily grab a tower for $600 that will be able to run games at playable settings around the medium or even high mark. It also depends if you need a monitor, OS, keyboard, or mouse. I'd pop in the tech thread say what you need and what you want to do with it and see what happens.

The day/night cycling was what blew me away the most. More online games need that feature.

Well, you have to take into account that MAG had pretty terrible graphics and BF3 will have amazing graphics.

So when DICE said that consoles couldn't handle 64 players, they meant that the consoles couldn't handle as many players with Frostbite 2.0 as the PC can?

The reasoning behind it has to do with what the consoles can handle graphically speaking with such a large volume of players. I doubt either console could handle rendering so many players in such an intense engine.

No I am not mad and I find it insulting just because I have a pc you expect me to buy from steam because of the great deals they have. Another thing is I don't have the greatest pc to game on in the first place. What is the point of many great deals on games I can't run and plus I do have steam I mostly use it for chat anyhow or maybe you don't understand that not every gamer on this forum wants to buy games from steam, I don't want to buy many games and I don't care if they are on a sale or I can run them I just don't want to buy anything from steam or gog or any other Digital distributer of video games. In short I don't want any games from steam and I am fine with the ones I have at the moment.

How many PC users do they expect to actually buy their game? Also how many PC users even have tip-top computers?

Here's one on both counts, actually. :whistling:

My current setup demolishes everything on maximum settings. The one thing I can't handle is 16x anisotropic filtering.
