Guess I was having a 'moment'!
Spoiler
- Shut down CK then PC
- Restart PC then CK
- Delete ALL 'BearTrap01' traps
- Copy 'BearTrap01' from traps warehouse
- Paste one 'BearTrap01' to work with into dungeon
- Double clicke on th 'BearTrap01' to get reference window
- In reference window check the box (show a tick/check mark) for 'Respawn' and 'Open By Default' only *DO NOT check any other checkbox in this reference window*
- Click on 'Edit Base'
- In the 'Scripts' pane, double click 'TrapBear'
- Scroll through properties and click on 'Start Open' this is a - Bool or Boolean
- make sure the StartOpen check box is checked
- Click 'OK' to accept the change
- Click 'OK' to accept the change
- Click 'OK' to accept the change
You should now have a bear trap that starts in the opne position
use it as your 'initial' bear trap.Use ctrl+d to duplicate the initial bear trap and use as many as you need.

It has been a while since I used anything like the CK so I thought I'd go with the tutorial (wiki) and see how things panned out.

So! I'm blazing through the tutorial and got to 'Traps and prefabs' and my tutorial dungeon is all set up and working well apart from one problem;
I have set up several 'BearTrap01' traps but cannot get them to be open to start or by default - when playing the dungeon, all the 'BearTrap01' are snapped shut.
I got my initial 'BearTrap01' from the traps warehouse and have tried deleting all traps and copy pasting a new initial trap without luck.
I have double clicked on a 'BearTrap01' to get the reference window and tried combinations of 'Open By Default' and 'Respawn' each on or off.
I also tried 'Edit Base' and tried setting the 'TrapBear'>'StartOpen' Boolean to on / true / checked.
Each 'BearTrap01' trap can be activated and thus set open and if my character or a mob walks into one it snaps shut.
ALL of my other traps work fine without any issues.
To stumble on what should be an easy CK task like this seems really newbish! As I said though - it's been a while.
I have searched the CK tutorial wiki, the net in general and these forums and not found help.
I would be gratefull if some of you could help.
