Bedroom in College of Winterhold

Post » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:08 pm

Is it safe to store your stuff in the cupboards of your room in the college of Winterhold? I ask because I'm RP'ing a character who has not enough capital to buy a house- a Mage who is slowly turning criminal (I've just started this character).

Yes, it's safe. I've never lost anything stored in any of the cupboards, dressers or barrels in that room.

I also stored stuff in that room and had no problems. With my orc mage I was so tired of carrying dragon bones and other stuffs but didn't have a house, so I stuffed em in the wardrobes..,

If you are away from the college for 30 days, the cell will reset. It will replenish all the Alchemy ingredients and Soul Gems at the crafting stations as well as everything in your room. It will reset the cell to the exact state it was when you first entered. I lost everything I had in that room. This was with my third character.

For the convince, I started storing stuff in a player home on the other side of the map. After returning to get things moved to the new home...they were gone.

Good luck. I hope you find your stuff.

As long as one returns regularly, you should be good. But get sidetracked for a few in-game weeks..and BOOM! Thieves Guild. There are reports of people loosing things only in certain containers in the room , but I was wiped clean. Even from rare and unique items.

Even Anise's Cabin stored things for an entire playthrough. I made sure I returned regularly. That was with my morbid Necromancer (one of them) and she drug three predead bodies from a shrine and used them as storage. I had done that before and the cell reset after being away for a month. The containers reset but the dead bodies were just returned to their original location...full of all my gear!

svcks you lost your stuff in that room. Bleaghish.

Yep all my stuff was there and apparently I had already moved the bones and ingots to storage in the arch-mage quarters.

This reminds me of storing stuff in a barrel on a dwemer bridge in Morrowind. Not sure how safe that was. lol. That's a long walk from Skyrim. ;)

"The room that you are given contains four respawning (unsafe) food barrels. The two end tables next to the bed, both tall wardrobes, and the chest of drawers between the wardrobes are all non-respawning (safe) for your belongings."

Tell that to my third character.

She went from 50 sets of armor to a few pair of boots and a Balchsmith's apron.

EDIT : That is not taking anything away from the UESP. It should be considered the utmost accurate info on the game. That also does not mean that those containers are tagged to respawn, or rather not respawn. I assume that the info was derived from the item information tab in the CK.

Whatever the case, even Beth stated that "no container" in the game should be thought of as 100% safe. Unless it is in a player owned home.

Well I'd never risk it anyway, I'd always store anything I wanted to keep in a chest in one of my houses.

Cupboards and Wardrobes and End Tables are always safe containers no matter where they are.

Barrels are not always safe.

Some barrels in that room are safe, but there is one or two that's not safe.

College of Winterhold respawning time is 10 days. Arch-Mage's quarters reset after 10 days until you become the Arch-Mage. Then it resets after 30 days.

My alchemist-mage-thief character has stolen from Arch-Mage's Quarters many many times and know this well.

That may hold true for the AM quarters but the room in question is 30. And I cannot support ANY cupboard and wardrobe being safe. Not from my experience.

I only recently learned this, too. Since then, my own experience has confirmed this. I've been clearing out everything from every dresser I've come across and putting a flower in its place.

"Some container types are set to be non-respawning — containers of that type will never respawn, no matter where the container is found."

My experience and the UESP article supports the theory that the cupboards and wardrobes are always safe.

My experience and the UESP article supports the theory that Hall of Attainment respawn time is 10 days. I've been collecting ice wraith teeth and few other ingredients from there for quite a while.

 Ok...that's nice.

EDIT : Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to discredit anyone. Especially the UESP. I am a supporter of the pages. And this may in fact be that case. I am sure you are correct in every detail. And the containers may be perfectly safe. However, I could not feel good about giving someone else the advice of them being 100% safe and loose a valued treasure.

Even the developers said that player homes are the only "sure thing".

Thanks for the input guys/gals. And, by the way:

1) So, is the Archmages quarter (when you're the Archmage) safe to store items in? Or is it the same scenario of potential respawning of items in storage containers after a certain amount of days?

2) Also, I am Archmages on my first character, but I still don't know- is there a storage chest in the Archmage quarters where you can duplicate ingredients? (Like in Oblivion).
