He can spawn in any bar, not just the bannered mare.

Yep. Right now he's sitting in the Bee and Barb on one toon, in whatever it's called in Windhelm on another one, and in the Winking Skeever on a third....

Maybe you make Whiterun your main base? If so, it's likely you'd be in the Bannered Mare more than in other taverns at the right level.

I think it depends which town you frequent the most.

Its after a certain level...15? i think? once you pass that level he jumps into the first City Tavern, I do not know if he goes into the small out of the way inns along the roads, and I've never seen him in riverwood.

ha has 2 varients

a hooded guy, and not so hooded guy. he can span Dremora and shoot lightning at you if you tick him off.

I think it's random.

It is random. Sam appeared in Windhelm in my game, got his bar stool stolen, followed me outside, stayed there, and proceeded to attack every dragon that attacked the city with summoned Dremora and lightning blasts.

Just pay the guy for his goat and move on to the next sequence in the Quest. When I did that one I looked for the goat and the giant for well over an hour but never found either. So finally I just paid the guy and moved on.

I woke up in the Temple of Dibella (apparently we were trying to pick up chicks  ). I was able to just leave and then I had to go to Rorikstead or Ivarstead and get the goat back from the giants. This quest rocks so just do what it says.

Edit: As I had read some of the wikis it said I had to collect some random items for the chicks in the temple, but I never did...I guess they liked me. :P

No, Solitude is my base and he was at the Silver Blood Inn for me. (It is random.)

It is not random. He will spawn in the closest tavern as soon as you hit level 14.

OP has obviously never been properly pissed up in real life before, welcome to the wonders of alchohol my freind.
It is a quality quest based on the Hangover movies style.

For added fun with this quest, do this on the night before your wedding night and make the drinking contest with Sam be your bachelor party. Then you'll have to race from Markarth to Riften before the day ends and your wedding is cancelled or your fiancé will be pissed at you for missing the wedding.

On a new non fast travel playthrough and I will give this a go, proper Hangover style action/mayhem. :)

This. is. brilliant.

Will definitely try it on this playthrough. Although, do you know how much time goes by when you pass out? Might actually be impossible to do it.

'A Night to Remember' can begin in any Inn in Skyrim, I believe. And it is AWESOME. :)
