Been out of the loop...

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:30 pm

I bought NV at launch and had a wonderful experience after installing the following relatively small mods:

Harder hardcoe Rates (refined rates)
Expensive Wasteland (5x)
Populated Wasteland

Now after taking several months off from New Vegas, I'm eager to dive back in.

However, I've been out of the loop and I'm wondering which new mods I should install?

Looking for
hi res texture replacement pack (playing at 1920x1080 resolution, probably 2048x2048 would be best)
good environmental mod that is faithful to original art direction
SSAO / graphics extender / lighting mods
body replacer (something along the lines of HGEC for Oblivion, ideally with realistic (small) briasts)
anything similar to Tamriel NPCs revamped - improvements to NPC faces?
new radio stations

Anything else you would recommend? Perhaps some new improvements to economy, hunger, thirst, sleep, etc?

Also, now that Dead Money is finally available for PC, I'm considering downloading it from Steam - is it worth it?

TVM for your help!

  • http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35645 - This is for NMC's Textures from Fallout 3

good environmental mod that is faithful to original art direction

  • http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35497 may fit your wants, though most environmental mods tend to sway from the original art.

SSAO / graphics extender / lighting mods

  • http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34868 - SSAO with the full version only; it may or may not be eating up your FPS though
  • http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39947
  • http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37908
  • http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40077
  • http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39619
  • http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35794

body replacer (something along the lines of HGEC for Oblivion, ideally with realistic (small) briasts)

new radio stations

  • The closest thing to something like HGEC would probably be http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34702, in terms of customization. However, the briasts aren't entirely small, even on the default settings from what I've experienced.
  • New Vegas Resdesigned was up for a while but has since been hidden from view on the Nexus. No idea why.
  • For Radio Stations there's http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35061. Haven't tried any other radio mods to be honest.

Not sure what to recommend but I would say try using either http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39651#fileanchor or http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37576 so that weapon modifications on the vanilla weapons are more plentiful and not limited.

There isn't much on the economy side. I'm still waiting, patiently, for when DarkUncleBoh's Economy Overhaul. Not sure at what stage he is at now.

As for Dead Money, I liked it. It was a change of pace from any of the FO3 DLC's, in terms of gameplay, and the story is quite well done with it's theme and how the quest progresses. Only downside is that you can't return to it after completing it, unless you get a mod for it.

I recommend Dead Money
It's got a great story as well as an beautiful setting....well IMO anyway.
I don't think any true FO fan should miss DM and will enjoy it as well.

Dead Money was a fun romp. It was, however, a bit of a change of pace for me. Dont regret it at all thought :D

cool, I think I'm going to download Dead Money - thanks for all the advice, guys.

I'm starting a new playthrough and going to install Arwen's pack as well.

If I manage to beat Dead Money at a lower level, will it be worth the trouble? In other words some cool semi-OP weapons that will help me?

Or is it better to wait until I get to a higher level.

You may want to wait a bit before installing my Tweaks . . . v.2.1 will be available in just a few hours.

Cool, thanks for the heads up!

Love all of your journals, BTW - the Oblivion journal is what initially inspired me to completely change my Oblivion experience with mods like Real Hunger, Real Sleep, Real Thirst, etc.

From the description, I get the sense that installing your Tweaks for NV will elevate the RP aspect to a new level - can't wait to try it.

Don't know if it's new to you but A World of Pain adds a lots of new interior and underground locations, weapons, characters, factions and several quests. It even seems to make the game more stable. And it's a tiny download.

If you want something ridiculous to try for a bit, give my Wacky Wasteland add-on a go. http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41283

Or if your character is a younger male, try http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34919

Common good mods were already listed above. Sorry I've got nothing else =P
