"Behave Like Exterior"

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:24 pm

Update: Problem Solved! Please don't respond to the topic.

I'm trying to get an interior cell to have the lighting change throughout the day and hopefully sky too. I figured my best bet was use the "Behave Like Exterior" flag in the cell lighting. However, I can't seem to get it to work. When its checked, the lighting does not change, nor is there sky. I've tried changing the interior climate, image space, clipping distance, clean save and nothing seems to work. There arn't any vanilla cells in NV that use that feature, so I'm kinda thinking its broken.

Normally, I'd go about figuring out an alternative, but somehow I got it to work while testing something else but can't replicate it.

If anyone knows how to get this feature to work, please let me know.

I know that the next best thing would be to create a new worldspace, however I'd rather not since that would require the users to do a clean save in order to update. The mod uses customizable form lists to sort inventory, so the user would have to reset the AutoSorter if a clean save was necessary.

FYI, the mod is http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36372

I don't know if this will help you, but I know for sure that the Goodsprings School changed lighting inside with the lighting outside. I made a mod turning the school into a home/base and that's one of the things I did away with. But I haven't worked on it in a while as it's finished and I don't remember what I changed to get it to stop switching the lighting. But you should be able to pick apart the vanilla school and find it. I'm at the office and can't look for it or I would, but that's where I would suggest looking first.

BTW, I like the tent!

I did a little http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39432 for a http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6CA8C36158924E10 which has http://s591.photobucket.com/albums/ss356/Ez0n3/Fallout%20NV/MyShackNV/Screenshots/v0x1/?action=view¤t=MyShackNV_01_Cove.jpg that uses "Behave Like Exterior", so I can confirm that it still works. Did you test it in-game, or are you saying that it isn't working in the GECK?

In the cell's Common Data, put NVDefaultExterior under the Image Space. Then, under Lighting, tick Behave Like Exterior and select NVDefaultClimate for the Climate. After you apply the settings, you should be able to hit the little Sky button in the toolbar and see the change. It should work in-game after that as well.

@Balok
It looks like the school house uses External Emittance to mimic outdoor lighting, If I can't get behave like exterior to work, that will be my next try. Thanks for pointing that out.

@Ez0n3
It works fine in the GECK render window, its when I'm ingame that it doesn't show up. I have tried using NVDefault Climate and NVDefaultExterior as Image Space with no luck.

Edit: Ez0n3, I just looked at your tutorials, and it looks like you're talking about doing a new worldspace. As stated in the OP, I'm trying to stay away from that. Thanks for your help though.

Just tried it myself as a quick test, and it worked fine.

Some screenshots of the GECK settings, then proof it works ingame. Hope you can get it working :)

I "think" I found the problem. I turned off "Behave like exterior," changed the cell properties to be the same as the Goodsprings School (lighting, imagespace, fog, etc) but when I played the game, the cell looked exactly the way it did before, same fog and lighting. So the problem must be in the memory. Oddly enough, when I was testing it out yesterday, a clean save didn't fix the problem. I'll do more testing.

Edit: Created a new cell with the properties that I want, and it works.... So now I have to figure out how to get the Tent cell to update it's properties.

Edit2: Found the problem. I use optional addon files with that mod, they were the problem since the cell properties were not updated in each of them. Thank you all for your help.
