- DARK BROTHERHOOD QUEST LINE SPOILERS -

Hi guys. :)

So I recently (almost) finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line and as you know you get those 20 000 Septims for killing the Emperor... I don't really like to spend such amount of money on some stupid Sanctuary and I would rather use it on trainers and stuff.

As because of my roleplay purposes my question is: Do you think that Nazir and Babette would be able to `survive` without my financial help? I really like them but I like the money more. I basically roleplay a character for who money is extremely important (kinda mercenary) and I really wanna keep the money as I'm a low lvl (14) but on the other hand I wanna Nazir and Babette to be OK.

So what do you think? Should I leave those guys take care of themselves or should I be a `good guy` in this, although I'm a mercenary-like type? :D

Thanks for any feedback in advance.

Babette is like 300 years old. I think she'll be fine.

A few things on this:

1) helping them is helping yourself. You get a master bedroom and an alchemy table, a garden, an enchantment table, etc. out of it. Babette will have Deadra hearts later as well. Well worth the price to build up the brotherhood AND get your first house.

2) One of the upgrades is a torture chamber. If you go to it and harm the people hanging on the walls, you get locations to money stashes totaling about 8500 g. So you are going to get some of it back really quickly.

3) You get access to "initiates". Nazir starts training noobs for you. They are sneaky, vicious hot chicks that get replaced if they die. A great follower to have at early levels because you don't have to worry about them being locked at a low level, and they tend to give away your position less.

If you don't upgrade the sanctuary, you can't get new members and thus can't rebuild the DB. Keep the gold if you want the DB to fall into OBLIVION!!!!

If you search every pot and take every bit of armour you can carry, even a gold-crazed mercenary can start feeling like they have too much. After about 80 hours of gameplay I have 70,000 gold, and I must have atleast 200,000 gold worth of items stashed up in a table that lags for 3 seconds every time you put a new item in it, but I haven't bothered to take the time to sell it all yet.

20K gold is nothing once you play for a bit you will have more than you know what to do with, I have over 300K gold all made legit, no cheats no exploits and all that was made prior to finishing the "stones quest" sithis only knows how much in gems I have stored up.

Some really good replies here, thank you. :)
I decided I'm probably gonna rebuild the Sanctuary...there are MANY advantages I didn't think of. I don't really care about a place to live in but the Initiates seem too good not to take. Also as http://www.gamesas.com/user/754826-ayers231/ mentioned the Torture Room, that seem like a really good source of money.
So yeah...thanks. :)

I've collected 321,000 in gold just by hitting caves and the such, There's no problem upgrading the sanctuary. I'm carrying about 24,000 in gold. I also own and have totally upgraded the solitude manor.

The obvious solution is to spend the money on things you need then rebuild the DB later then you have more money.
In any elder scroll game, money is hard to come by in the start but you get more than you need later.

100k gold on hand. 300k gold "found". Hundreds of items stashed away because the merchants don't have the gold to buy it all. 3 houses (Breezehome, Honeyside, Proudmore) with all upgrades.

How?
  • Don't leave anything behind. Loot everything. (Ex. In Embershard Mine loot the chamber pot. Yep, don't even leave them a pot to piss in.) Stash the small stuff in a convenient chest and come back for it if you must.
  • Make your mule... err, follower pick up everything you can't.
  • Rage at the merchants for not having the gold to buy it all.
  • Profit.

I was little curious about the gold too. I found a use for some of mine though. I am upping my pick-pocketing without any real trouble. I just pickpocket everything off of someone, get arrested, pay my fine, and go do it again. The Jarl's palaces are great for this as everyone has lots of jewelry. Since I don't care about the gold, the fine is moot, I just wait through the load screen and go again.

Makes me wish I could start my own town. Beth knows I've got the cash to clearcut Skyrim for the wood and level a mountain for the stone.

Now where to build my castle... I know! The swamp! Yes, people will think I'm mad but... (cue Monty Python lines).

I really don't care about the DB. Let em rot. I got the money. I'd like to rebuild the Blades, since that would benefit ... me.

totally worth it from an rpg view as well as a gaming view. plus i dont think any other guild faction made as much of an impression as the kind folk at the DB. im honestly saddened things turned out the way it did because it was the only place my DB felt "at home", regardless, im totally adversed to murder and took the bare minimum amount of jobs from nazir.

The Torture Chamber IS a trainer. Attacking the prisoners raises whichever weapon skill (or destruction) you're using on them. Heal them up with Healing Hands, rinse, and repeat.

Meh. I didnt see them kill the Emperor. Keep the money.

However, the roleplay wont be affected, because the infinite Night Mother quests give you a LOT of money, so you can earn the money back and have fun killing people in the process. Although not that fun since being incredibly, even godly sneaky in this game is super simple onceyou have DB equipment and perks.
