Being Killed by a Follower

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:41 am

OK, so I make my way up to Bard's Leap. I create a save point then go to enjoy the view. As I am standing there, I see my character moving forward, don't know why, then I am falling to my death. What the heck? I reload my save, walk up to the edge, again, I am moved forward and I fall to my death. Can't figure it out, I reload and stand there and no movement. I get to the edge, then I am sliding off the platform.

So, again, I reload, and then I switch to 3rd Person. It was my follower, don't remember her name, but she is a mage you find at a shrine (not telling you which one here). Turns out she was moving in close to see the view too and was pushing me off to my death. Over and over again.

So, I know we have all killed, or caused to be killed, our followers. Has your follower killed you and how did they do it?

That's happened to me at Bards Leap lol! I fast traveled there and my horse pushed me off. Beautiful view though.

Brelyna's cooking is god awful, but Lydia randomly loosed arrows upon town guards more often than I cared for, which is why I left her "behind."

I don't know if this counts but I was going through a cave and ran into a bandit chief. I tried to back up but Jenassa was very rude and blocked the way.

There is a pit of spikes near a certain Bandit Camp (in Whiterun hold) and Mjoll the Lioness got a little too excited and ran into me - I was impaled quick time... more holy than an Azura worshipper !

Lydia for some reason doesn't understand the importance of avoiding pressure plates. She also seems to get a kick out of stepping on them while I am in the dead zone :(

Oh yes. Sometimes I feel like Bethesda has set up traps deliberately so that when a companion triggers a trap a few steps behind, it is you who gets hit. :P

I have been blasted in the back by Illia countless times and died. And since I was playing on PS3 with my auto-saves turned off I would sporadically lose hours of play time from blue on blue attacks.

Stray Dog. That evil monster. I befriended him in the wilderness, he follows me, he attacks dragons. All good. But, in a Draugr cavern, he seems to delight in stepping on pressure plates which I have carefully sidestepped. This cannot be an accident. Bethesda did it on purpose I tell you!

I got tired of my followers getting in the way, so I eventually just decided to travel solo. It's not like they are that important, anyways. Eventually they just start aggroing everything nearby, and that gets annoying. About as annoying as my horses being stupidly aggressive and charging a fort full of bandits when I was wanting to just run into the center of the fort and call down lightning with Storm Call without frying my horse.

There was a huge thread in this forum about a guy playing a dead is dead character who had the exact same thing happen to him, only it was with a dog companion. He wanted to know if people thought it would be ok to reload seeing as it's a bit of a glitch. Most said no :P.

I gave Lydia a certain sword that has the chance to make the undead explode. weeeell here we are in a dungeon with I'd say at least 10 Drauger and one Deathlord and I'm swinging away with my Battleaxe holding my own, Deathlord hit's me once 1/2 my health gone and then Boom right behind me, DOA!

hahaha, CCNA. I've been killed by Barbas. He pushed me right off a cliff. He never respects personal space and I was happy when we no longer were travelling together. I made sure I didn't stand too close to the edge of anything after it happened the first time.

I always took off at top speed at Bard's Leap and the very first time, I was sure I'd get a death animation but to my surprise, I survived...and then kept doing it because it was fun. Did you try telling your companion to "Stand there" and then push them off? Fus Ro Dah. :tes:

I've been killed by a companion stepping on a pressure plate.

Me: Okay, there's a pressure plate, I can walk around it.
Lydia: (steps on pressure plate)
Swinging gate trap: (SWING!)
Me: Damn it Lydia!

Not killed, but Lydia's archery skills really bite. I was dropping health at a horrendous rate, so I guzzled healing potions and switched to 3rd person to see three of her arrows sticking out of the back of my head. I'd have done my Steve Martin impression if I hadn't been so angry about it.

I have had some very close calls with my Follower nearly pushing me off the edge of cliffs too, but the only other way they`ve killed me is when they`ve activated a trap on me.

I think the problem is when they run to catch you up they actually have a bit of momentum and can`t stop instantly. They don`t judge their stopping distance very well.

Lydia got me caught by that Draugr Overlord Knevel while I was trying to sneak attack him. I did not even stand a chance without stealth.

I gave Aela a fireball staff that did like 50 or so damage, and we decided to clear some ruins of Draugr when I managed to kill the Deathlord, with barely any health since Histkin ran out and I had no potions to spam, she fired the staff slightly delayed and blow up the ground under my feet, sending me flying through the tunnel.
I have since taken all her weapons and left her with a dagger & Bow with Ebony armour, she can stay that way or return home and play housemaid with Lydia :P

Happened to me, only that it was a dreomora lord who had apparently tired of being summoned :( Victory was mine in the end though, for he did not foresee my ability to reload!

I finally plumped to leaving Brelyna at home taking care of our adopted child (worst mistake ever) but it is so nice to be out on the open road, not having to wonder how she's gonna follow me up the side of a mountain or cough when we're standing 3ft away from a Dragon Priest, giviing away our posititon :goodjob:

Barbas. I lost count of the times he brutally killed me, but still didn't have the heart to kill him. Why in Oblivion???
Also, Brynjolf, Lydia, Mjoll and Derkeethus activated trap gates quite a few times.
