Being a Thane

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 4:57 pm

Hi all,

Over the last couple of days i thought I'd try to to a proper role-playing character. I play as an Imperial, and am doing the main quest along with the Legion CW quest.

I just would like to know, would it be realistic/normal for somebody to be Thane of more than one city as I want to buy Proudspire Manor, and have already been forced into Thanehood by Baalgruuf.

Being an honorary title in recognition for your services to that particular hold, I don't see why not. In fact, becoming a thane of every hold would technically make you Thane of Skyrim. Perhaps with an expansion, the new High King of Skyrim is crowned and you can then be declared as Than of Skyrim by the high king provided you become one for each hold.

would be neat. I'll even be content to make thane more than an honorary title via mods... perhaps a nice estate in the countryside, with a few farms, a small town, my own militia...

This is *exactly* what I was thinking. When I first escaped from Helgen I thought: Wouldn't it be awesome if at the end of the main quest the top person made you the Jarl of the town and subdivided a small amount of land from The Rift and made it Helgen Hold or something. Then you could pay to fix it up, create some farms on the outskirts and generally run the place. Then again, that's exactly what I thought after saving Martin from Kvatch so...I don't think Bethesda thinks like me.

At least for your efforts they could have given you some small hamlet somewhere, but no. Such is life.

How do you get land titles in Skyrim? So do you have to be a Jarl or something? Even this position seems rather arbitary. It's like the policies of the French Republic, where no one owns land title.

I don't know about it being realistic/normal but I'm the Thane of ever city in Skyrim all I can say is play the game in any way you like.
